Wikipedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Teqball<\/strong> is a <strong>hybrid of football and table tennis. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is played with a <strong>football on a curved table.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> It was <strong>invented in Budapest, Hungary, in 2012. <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It was developed by<strong> former professional footballer G\u00e1bor Bors\u00e1nyi<\/strong>, entrepreneur <strong>Gy\u00f6rgy Gatty\u00e1n<\/strong>, and computer scientist <strong>Viktor Husz\u00e1r.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Global Governing Body:<\/strong> The<strong> F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de Teqball (FITEQ)<\/strong> is the <strong>global body<\/strong> that <strong>organises Global Series and World Championships.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Participants:<\/strong> Teqball can be <strong>played in singles<\/strong> between two players or <strong>doubles between two teams<\/strong> of two players.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Equipment:<\/strong> It uses a <strong>size-5 football<\/strong> filled to lower pressure and a <strong>curved table with a rigid net.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Format:<\/strong> Matches are <strong>played in best-of-three sets,<\/strong> with <strong>12 points needed to win a set.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Touches:<\/strong> Players <strong>cannot use their arms or hands<\/strong> and get a <strong>maximum of three touches before returning the ball.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Doubles:<\/strong> In doubles, <strong>the ball must be passed to a teammate at least once<\/strong> before being played towards the opponent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Table:<\/strong> Players <strong>cannot touch the table during play<\/strong>, reducing the chances of injury through contact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"yellow-h2-box\">Status of Teqball in India<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Federation:<\/strong> <strong>Teqball India<\/strong> was <strong>formed in 2019<\/strong> and is <strong>based in Mumbai.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>affiliated with FITEQ.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition:<\/strong> The sport is <strong>awaiting recognition from India\u2019s Sports Ministry<\/strong> and <strong>the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Players:<\/strong> India currently has around 180\u2013200 registered players.<\/li>\n<li><strong>International Performance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>At the <strong>2024 World Championships in Vietnam,<\/strong> <strong>Mohamed Anas Baig and Declan Gonsalves<\/strong> won <strong>bronze in men\u2019s doubles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Asian Games 2026:<\/strong> India fielded a<strong> three-member<\/strong> squad in <strong>women\u2019s singles, men\u2019s doubles and mixed doubles.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quimcy Dsouza competed in women\u2019s singles,<\/strong> while <strong>Mohamed Anas Baig and Declan Gonsalves competed in men\u2019s doubles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> Dsouza and Baig also represented India in mixed doubles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India narrowly missed bronze in women\u2019s singles and mixed doubles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Teqball made its debut at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with India coming close to winning medals in women\u2019s singles and mixed doubles..
