FPJ<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> The <strong>Ginnorgarh Fort<\/strong> is located inside the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ratapani-tiger-reserve\/\">Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary<\/a> in Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Built by:<\/strong> It was developed by the<strong> Raj Gond rulers of the Garha Kingdom.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It served as the <strong data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"388\">principal fortified capital of the Raj Gond rulers in central India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"246\" data-end=\"268\">Historical Period:<\/strong> The fort functioned as a major <strong data-start=\"300\" data-end=\"396\">political and administrative centre <\/strong>from the early<strong data-start=\"300\" data-end=\"396\"> 16th century until the early 18th century<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strategic setting:<\/strong> The fort uses <strong>steep slopes, ravines<\/strong> and thick <strong>vegetation<\/strong> as natural defensive features.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three-tiered layout:<\/strong> It is <strong>divided<\/strong> into the <strong>morcha, amghera and inner royal core,<\/strong> reflecting <strong>administrative, military and social hierarchy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fortifications:<\/strong> The complex has <strong>fortification walls reaching up to 82 feet<\/strong>, along with bastions and gateways.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Palatial remains:<\/strong> The ruined <strong>seven-storey Rani Mahal<\/strong> contains <strong>halls with domical ceilings<\/strong> and <strong>wall paintings<\/strong> showing <strong>animals, birds, floral and geometric designs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Water management:<\/strong> The fort had <strong>65 stepwells and four lakes<\/strong> that collected and stored rainwater for year-round supply.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indigenous technology:<\/strong> Construction used <strong>lime, surkhi, stone, wood, jaggery and Bael pulp, showing adaptation to local climate and terrain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">Udaigiri Caves<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_372953\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-372953\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-372953\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-Wikipedia-2.jpg?resize=300%2C201&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Udaigiri Caves\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-Wikipedia-2.jpg?resize=300%2C201&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Source-Wikipedia-2.jpg?w=754&amp;ssl=1 754w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-372953\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; Wikipedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> The <strong>Udaigiri Caves<\/strong> are located on<strong> Udaigiri Hill in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Built by:<\/strong> It was developed <strong>primarily under Gupta patronage <\/strong>between the <strong>late 4th and early 5th centuries CE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The site <strong>contains 20 excavated caves<\/strong> with <strong>shrines, sculptures, inscriptions and circulation paths.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gupta art:<\/strong> It preserves an <strong>early stage of Hindu sacred architecture and iconography.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Varaha relief:<\/strong> <strong>Cave 5 contains<\/strong> the celebrated monumental <strong>Varaha panel, an important example of Gupta sculptural expression.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Religious elements:<\/strong> The complex contains<strong> Shaiva and Jain<\/strong> <strong>elements<\/strong> alongside its dominant<strong> Gupta-period Brahmanical programme<\/strong>, particularly its <strong>Vaishnava imagery<\/strong> and association with <strong>kingship<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrated sacred landscape:<\/strong> The caves, sculptures, inscriptions, topography and water-related features together form an <strong>integrated ritual landscape<\/strong> in which the natural hill was transformed into a <strong>sacred and political setting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Five new sites and serial transnational proposals have been added to India\u2019s UNESCO Tentative List, taking the total to 78 sites.
