{"id":373107,"date":"2026-10-03T15:27:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=373107"},"modified":"2026-10-03T15:27:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:57:00","slug":"buxa-tiger-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/buxa-tiger-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Buxa Tiger Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-box-green\">\n<p><b>News: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A tigress was released in Buxa Tiger Reserve, West Bengal, marking the beginning of a phased Tiger Reintroduction Programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\"><b>About Buxa Tiger Reserve<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 314px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDxbE-VX4rJkdrS9lWkDu_0CfrxYhtYpSarcCmUds5cXlXA9LucaMbRmN-&amp;s=10\" alt=\"Buxa tiger reserve\" width=\"314\" height=\"206\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Mongabay India<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Buxa Tiger Reserve<\/strong> is situated in the<\/span><b> Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at the<\/span><b> confluence of three major bio-geographic zones: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lower Gangetic plains, Central Himalayas and the Brahmaputra valley.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Corridor connectivity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has corridor connectivity<\/span><b> across the border with the forests of Bhutan in the North,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the<\/span><b> East it has linkages with the Kochugaon forests, <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/manas-national-park\/\">Manas Tiger Reserve<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> on the West with the Jaldapara National Park.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Important corridors <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are Buxa-Chilapata Corridor, Buxa-Titi Corridor and Buxa-Ripu Corridor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Establish year: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was notified<\/span><b> under Project Tiger in 1983 as the 15th tiger reserve in India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Total Area: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">760.87 sq. km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Associated River:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is crossed by <\/span>major rivers like the<b> Sankosh, Raidak, Jayanti, and Dima.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Vegetation: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is covered mainly by<\/span><b> moist tropical forests.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Flora: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forest is dominated by <\/span><b>Sal, Champa, Gamar and Simul trees.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Fauna: Elephants, Tiger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><b> Gaur, Sambar, Chital, Wild boar, Leopards, <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/clouded-leopard-conservation-action-plan-cap\/\">Clouded leopards<\/a>, Dhole and Red jungle fowl <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are found here..<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Species such as the <\/span><b>Hill Myna, Crested Serpent Eagle, Black Francolin, Hornbills, and various species of waterfowl <\/b>are found in the reserve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Tribes: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Various tribes such as <\/span><b>Rawas, Mechs, Santhals, Oraos and Garos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> live around the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"yellow-h2-box\">About Tiger Reintroduction Programme<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Under the <strong>Phased Tiger Reintroduction Programme<\/strong> initiation, a tigress was translocated from <strong data-start=\"226\" data-end=\"258\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Valmiki Tiger Reserve <\/strong>to <strong>Buxa Tiger Reserve<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aimed <strong>at restoring a viable and self-sustaining tiger population<\/strong> in this historically important tiger landscape.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> Its objective is <strong>to create the conditions in which a tiger population can establish,<\/strong> breed and ultimately become viable and self-sustaining.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal ministry:<\/strong> Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change<\/li>\n<li>The programme is being implemented in a <strong data-start=\"336\" data-end=\"375\" data-is-only-node=\"\">planned, phased and adaptive manner<\/strong>, based on scientific assessments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: A tigress was released in Buxa Tiger Reserve, West Bengal, marking the beginning of a phased Tiger Reintroduction Programme.
