either modelled from scratch or captured using a 3D scanner or now a days made using AI from mobile phone photos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>STL file:<\/strong> A <strong>STL (Standard Tessellation Language) file represents a 3D model as a collection of triangular surfaces<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>It is one of the <strong>commonly used file formats for preparing models for AM.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This <strong>file instructs what to build<\/strong> to the machine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slicing<\/strong>: Slicing software<strong> divides this digital model into hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Once done <strong>it instructs machine how to print layer-by-layer.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Printing<\/strong>: The <strong>sliced file is fed into the AM machine,<\/strong> which reads each layer and builds the object step by step.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additive Process<\/strong>: An AM object is<strong> built by laying down successive layers of material<\/strong> until it takes its final shape.\n<ul>\n<li>Currently, <strong>there are 40+ such processes in market and R&amp;D stage.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Final object<\/strong>: The <strong>printer fuses successive layers of material together into a single, complete three-dimensional object.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Once printed, post processing is done to make it marketable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Application:<\/strong> It\u00a0is increasingly being adopted across <strong>sectors such as aerospace, defence, healthcare, electronics and construction.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing (NSAM)<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 589px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/2026\/oct\/image006_20261007120900_14d323.jpg?resize=589%2C277&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing (NSAM) \" width=\"589\" height=\"277\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing was launched as <strong>India\u2019s policy framework for developing domestic capabilities in 3D printing<\/strong> and <strong>additive manufacturing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Released by:<\/strong> It was released by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology <strong>(MeitY) in 2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">It sets <strong>clear, time-bound national targets<\/strong>, pursued through <strong>Centre-State, industry and academic collaboration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aims to<strong> capture 5% of the global additive manufacturing market and contribute nearly USD 1 billion<\/strong> to India\u2019s GDP.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Targets:<\/strong> It also envisages to:\n<ul>\n<li>Develop <strong>50 India-specific AM technologies<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Nurture <strong>100 start-ups<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Create <strong>500 new products<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Train <strong>1 lakh<\/strong> <strong>skilled workers <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Build capabilities across <strong>10 manufacturing sectors.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"red-h2-box\">About National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing (NSAM) 2.0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NSAM 2.0:<\/strong> The government is<strong> now conceptualizing NSAM 2.0 to accelerate the growth of India\u2019s additive manufacturing market.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Focus:<\/strong> The proposed next phase will <strong>focus on Intellectual Property Rights generation, digital integration, commercialisation of globally competitive technologies<\/strong> and<strong> improving the affordability of AM machines and materials through clusters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">NSAM 2.0 also proposes expanding the AM start-up ecosystem, <strong>supporting defence applications and promoting Sustainable Development Goal-driven pilot programmes. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India has strengthened its Additive Manufacturing (AM) ecosystem under National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing.
