NOA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gopabandhu Das<\/strong>\u00a0was a <strong>freedom fighter, social reformer, educationist, journalist and poet<\/strong> from Odisha.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Early Life:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Birth:<\/strong> He was born on <strong>9 October<\/strong> <strong>1877 <\/strong>in Suando village near Sakshigopal in<strong> Puri district, Odisha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Early Activism:<\/strong> While studying at <strong>Ravenshaw College<\/strong>, he established the<strong> Kartavya Bodhini Samiti<\/strong> to promote <strong>social service, duty and national awareness among students.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Career:<\/strong> He <strong>gave up his legal practice <\/strong>to devote himself to the <strong>freedom struggle and social reform.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Title:<\/strong> He received the <strong>title \u2018Utkalmani\u2019, meaning \u2018Gem of Odisha\u2019, from Prafulla Chandra Roy<\/strong> for his selfless service to the people of Odisha.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Influenced By:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vande Mataram Group:<\/strong> During his stay in Calcutta, he came into contact with the Vande Mataram group, which <strong>inspired him with the spirit of Swadeshi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lala Lajpat Rai:<\/strong> At his request, Gopabandhu Das joined the <strong>Servants of the People Society<\/strong> and worked to implement its programmes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Contributions:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Freedom Movement:<\/strong> He actively participated in the <strong>freedom struggle and promoted the Non-Cooperation Movement in Odisha.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He encouraged people to join the national movement and helped <strong>spread the message of the charkha and other constructive programmes of the Congress.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Politics:<\/strong> He became the <strong>first President of the Congress party in Odisha in 1920<\/strong> and continued in the position until 1928.\n<ul>\n<li>He also <strong>worked for the creation of a separate Odisha province.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Education:<\/strong> He founded <strong>Satyabadi Bana Vidyalaya in 1909<\/strong> in Puri district to <strong>promote education and develop moral values<\/strong> among students.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Journalism:<\/strong> He founded the <strong>Odia newspaper The Samaja in 1919<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social Service:<\/strong> He established the <strong>Puri Seva Samiti to help cholera victims.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He also campaigned <strong>against untouchability<\/strong> and supported <strong>widow rehabilitation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Literary Work:<\/strong> He wrote several works in Odia, including <strong>Abakasha Chinta, Dharmapada, Kara Kabita and Bandira Atmakatha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Death:<\/strong> He died on <strong>17 June 1928, <\/strong>following illness, at the age of 50<span style=\"font-family: var(--global--font-secondary);
