Technology (DST)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Fund for Improvement of S&amp;T Infrastructure (<strong>FIST) programme<\/strong> is a flagship research and development programme to <strong>upgrade research and teaching facilities in Indian universities, PG colleges, and scientific institutions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It is intended<strong> to provide basic infrastructure and enabling facilities for promoting R&amp;D activities in new and emerging areas<\/strong> and<strong> attracting fresh talents in universities &amp; other educational institutions.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is considered as<strong> complimentary support for enabling Departments\/ Centres\/ Schools\/ Colleges <\/strong>to pursue research activities more effectively and efficiently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Nodal Department:<\/strong> <strong>Department of Science &amp; Technology (DST)<\/strong> is the nodal ministry.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is also the <strong>funding Agency.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus Area:<\/strong> All Science Disciplines<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Focus of the research:<\/strong> The <strong>synergy and focus of research<\/strong> may<strong> preferably be aligned to National Missions\/ priorities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Duration<\/strong>: The duration of support for<strong> each FIST Project will be for a period of 5 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>provide optimal infrastructure for postgraduate and higher research<\/strong> through renovation and modernization of existing laboratories, cold rooms, equipment, and research facilities, without undertaking new construction.<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>supports upgradation of research support facilities, <\/strong>including networking and computational resources, software and databases, scientific and technical books (excluding journals), and maintenance and refurbishment of existing and new facilities.<\/li>\n<li>The facilities provided under the program are<strong> intended to support the efforts of the Department<\/strong> as a <strong>whole or a number of faculty members in the Department. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Proposal towards individual R&amp;D support<\/strong> would<strong> not be accepted<\/strong> under this Scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Types of Support under the FIST Programme<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Level A (Academic-PGC):<\/strong> <strong>Up to \u20b91.5 crore for 5 years<\/strong> to establish research facilities in eligible active postgraduate colleges.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Level B (Basic R&amp;D Departments):<\/strong> <strong>Up to \u20b93 crore for 5 years<\/strong> to strengthen research facilities in eligible postgraduate S&amp;T departments of universities and academic institutions.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Level C (Contemporary R&amp;D Departments):<\/strong> <strong>Up to \u20b910 crore for 5 years<\/strong> to support established S&amp;T departments in acquiring advanced equipment and developing laboratories for internationally competitive research.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>FIST-SHAKTI: Institutional-level funding<\/strong> to develop advanced, high-end technological facilities with active users from both the host institution and external organizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Researchers used a Raman spectrometer supported by the DST-Fund for Improvement of S&amp;T Infrastructure (FIST) Programme to identify Mars-analogue minerals in Tamil Nadu and Chile.
