{"id":38136,"date":"2018-12-05T17:57:31","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T12:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=38136"},"modified":"2018-12-05T18:00:31","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T12:30:31","slug":"tiger-in-the-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/tiger-in-the-snow\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiger in the snow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/opinion\/editorials\/royal-bengal-tiger-snow-arunachal-pradesh-dibang-valley-5478728\/\"><strong>Tiger in the snow<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife Institute of India has found Royal Bengal Tiger in the snow-capped regions of the Eastern Himalaya.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IUCN Red List status: Endangered<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tiger only have one species in the world but it is divided into six subspecies:<strong> Bengal (Indian), Sumatran, Amur (Siberian), Malayan, Amoy (South China) and Indochinese.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Bengal tiger habitats usually are tropical rainforests, marshes, and tall grasses however recently they have also been traced in the snow-capped region of Eastern Himalaya in Arunachal Pradesh\u2019s Dibang Valley<\/li>\n<li>A large part of the Dibang Valley is home to the <strong>Mishmi tribes<\/strong> who have found to co-exist with the animals.<\/li>\n<li>The mangroves of the Sundarbans shared between Bangladesh and India\u2014are the only mangrove forests where tigers are found.<\/li>\n<li>Smaller populations are also found in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, China and Myanmar. It is the most numerous of all tiger subspecies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Threats and Conservation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The main threats are: poaching and conflicts with humans<\/li>\n<li>Since the 1970s India began to establish reserves through the <strong>Tiger Project<\/strong> that helped stabilize the Number of tigers. Also, the Indian <strong>Wildlife Protection Act of 1972<\/strong> empowers the government to take conservation measures.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Wildlife Protection Society of India<\/strong> continues watching all allegations of tiger poaching<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and World Land Trust (WLT)<\/strong> are working together to secure safe passage for elephants, tigers and other threatened species away from humans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Namdapha National Park<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 It is located between the <strong>Dapha bum range of the Mishmi Hills and the Patkai range.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Noa-Dihing River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra<\/strong> which flows westwards through the middle of Namdapha<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 Country\u2019s only reserve to have four big cat species <strong>\u2014 the tiger, leopard and the severely endangered clouded and snow leopards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 Namdapha was originally declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1972, then a National Park in 1983 and became a Tiger Reserve under the Project Tiger scheme in the same year<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Chakma, Tangsa and Singpho and Lisu tribal<\/strong> settlement found around the park.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Project Tiger:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 Tiger conservation programme was <strong>initiated in 1973 in the Corbett national park of Uttarakhand<\/strong> by the government of India with the help of <strong>World Wildlife Fund <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is a statutory body of the Ministry, with an overarching supervisory \/ coordination role, performing functions as provided in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 There are 50 tiger reserves in India which are governed by Project Tigers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2005, The Prime Minister of India set up the <strong>Tiger Task Force<\/strong> to strengthen the conservation of Tigers in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>About World Wide Fund for Nature<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 WWF is world&#8217;s largest international non-governmental organization for conservation founded in 1961<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 The <strong>Living Planet Report<\/strong> is published every two years by WWF since 1998; it is based on a Living Planet Index and ecological footprint calculation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">o\u00a0\u00a0 Currently, their work is organized around these six areas: food, climate, freshwater, wildlife, forests, and oceans<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tiger in the snow News: Wildlife Institute of India has found Royal Bengal Tiger in the snow-capped regions of the Eastern Himalaya.
