{"id":40111,"date":"2019-01-09T17:37:23","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T12:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=40111"},"modified":"2019-01-09T17:37:23","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T12:07:23","slug":"nasa-probe-discovers-new-planet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nasa-probe-discovers-new-planet\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA probe discovers new planet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-in-school\/nasa-probe-discovers-new-planet\/article25945185.ece\">NASA probe discovers new planet<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NASA\u2019s discovered new planet, named HD 21749b orbiting a dwarf star 53 light years away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HD 21749 is a star that is approximately 68% the mass of and 76% the radius of the Sun<\/li>\n<li><strong>The star has two exoplanets: a possibly rocky, hot sub-Neptune-sized exoplanet, named HD 21749b; and, a sub-Earth exoplanet, named HD 21749c<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This is the third new planet confirmed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) since its launch in April last year.<\/li>\n<li>The planet in the constellation Reticulum appears to have the longest orbital period of the three planets so far identified by TESS.<\/li>\n<li>Two other discovered planets are <strong>\u2013 Pi Mensaeb, a \u201csuper-Earth\u201d with a 6.3-day orbit, and LHS 3844b, a rocky world that speeds around its star in just 11 hours.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The surface of the new planet is likely around 300 degrees Fahrenheit relatively cool, given its proximity to its star, which is almost as bright as the sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a space telescope for NASA&#8217;s Explorers program, designed to search for exoplanets using the transit method in an area 400 times larger than that covered by the Kepler mission<\/li>\n<li>The primary mission objective for TESS is to survey the brightest stars near the Earth for transiting exoplanets over a two-year period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NASA probe discovers new planet News: NASA\u2019s discovered new planet, named HD 21749b orbiting a dwarf star 53 light years away.
