{"id":41518,"date":"2019-02-02T17:58:17","date_gmt":"2019-02-02T12:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=41518"},"modified":"2019-02-02T17:58:17","modified_gmt":"2019-02-02T12:28:17","slug":"interim-budget-2019-farm-pension-just-a-drizzle-in-drought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/interim-budget-2019-farm-pension-just-a-drizzle-in-drought\/","title":{"rendered":"Interim Budget 2019 | Farm pension: just a drizzle in drought?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/budget\/farm-pension-just-a-drizzle-in-drought\/article26155194.ece\"><strong>Interim Budget 2019 | Farm pension: just a drizzle in drought?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the interim budget, the government has announced the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>About the scheme:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The scheme will provide assured income support to small and marginal farmers.<\/li>\n<li>Under the scheme, farmers with small landholdings, of up to two hectares, will be provided direct income support of Rs 6,000 per year.<\/li>\n<li>The annual support of \u20b96,000 will be paid directly into beneficiary bank accounts over the course of the year in three instalments of \u20b92,000 each.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is expected to benefit more than 12 crore farming families.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is applicable with retrospective effect from December 2018 and will be fully funded by the Union government.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Criticism<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Several agricultural economists and farm activists have argued that the scheme is not enough to alleviate agrarian distress.<\/li>\n<li>Further, the scheme\u2019s payout is lower than what is being given by two States which already implement similar schemes:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Telengana\u2019s Rythu Bandhu scheme which gives farmers \u20b910,000 an acre a year,<\/li>\n<li>Odisha\u2019s KALIA scheme, which is giving \u20b910,000 a household a year to small landholders as well as landless tenant farmers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Other measures announced:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A 2-5% interest subvention for loans taken by farmers hit by natural disasters or for livestock farming and fisheries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interim Budget 2019 | Farm pension: just a drizzle in drought?
