It is a part of the Rashtriya Bal\nSwasthya Karyakram (RBSK)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram\n(RBSK)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It was launched in 2013 under\n the National Health Mission. It is implemented by Ministry of Health and\n Family Welfare<\/li><li><strong>Aim:<\/strong>&nbsp;early identification&nbsp; and&nbsp; early&nbsp;\n intervention&nbsp; for&nbsp; children&nbsp; from&nbsp; birth&nbsp;\n to&nbsp; 18&nbsp; years to cover&nbsp;<strong>4 \u2018D\u2019s viz. Defects at&nbsp; birth,&nbsp;\n Deficiencies,&nbsp; Diseases,&nbsp; Development&nbsp; delays&nbsp;\n including&nbsp; disability.<\/strong><\/li><li>Child Health Screening and\n Early Intervention Services under RBSK covers 30 selected health\n conditions for screening, early detection and free management.\n Tuberculosis and Leprosy were previously not a part of it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Leprosy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Leprosy, also known as\n Hansen\u2019s disease is a chronic neuro-muscular disorder. It is caused by\n several strains of&nbsp;<strong>Mycobacterium leprae.<\/strong><\/li><li>It can be cured with\n Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Status of Leprosy in India:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In 2005, India achieved the\n goal of elimination of leprosy as a public health problem, defined by WHO\n as less than 1 case per 10,000 population.<\/li><li>All states except\n Chhattisgarh and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli have\n eliminated leprosy. However, 1.15 lakh to 1.2 lakh new leprosy cases are\n still detected annually<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elimination efforts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>National Leprosy Eradication Programme<\/strong>&nbsp;was launched in 1983\n with an objective to arrest the disease activity in all the known cases of\n leprosy and eventually eliminate leprosy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Global leprosy strategy 2016-2020:&nbsp;<\/strong>It has been launched by WHO.\n It aims at a) zero children with leprosy-affected disabilities by 2020 and\n b) reduction of new patients diagnosed with leprosy-related deformities to\n &gt;1 per million population<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Tuberculosis (TB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>TB is an infectious airborne\n bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.<\/li><li>When TB infection becomes\n resistant to the first line of treatment \u2014 isoniazid and rifampicin, it is\n called Multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB). When the infection becomes\n resistant even to the second-line treatment it is called Extensively-drug\n resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Status of TB in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The WHO 2018 Global TB Report\n says that India has the highest burden of TB and multi-drug-resistant TB\n (MDR-TB)<\/li><li>TB kills an estimated 4,\n 80,000 Indians every year \u2014 an average over 1,300 every day.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elimination Efforts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Indian government has put\n forward&nbsp;<strong>National Strategic Plan (NSP) for TB Elimination, 2017-2025<\/strong>.\n The plan is a framework to provide guidance for the activities of various\n stakeholders to reduce the burden of TB mortality and morbidity.<\/li><li>In 2018, the government\n launched the&nbsp;<strong>TB Free India campaign<\/strong>&nbsp;to take activities\n under NSP for TB Elimination. The campaign seeks to&nbsp;<strong>eliminate TB\n in India by 2025<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>SDG High\nAltitudes<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Union\nEnvironment Minister has released a study on the Status of Tiger Habitats in\nhigh altitude ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The study was conducted by the Global Tiger Forum(GTF) in\n partnership with the Governments of Bhutan, India and Nepal and along with\n the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF).<\/li><li>The study has been supported by the Integrated Tiger Habitat\n Conservation Program (ITHCP) of the International Union for Conservation\n of Nature (IUCN) and KfW (German Development Bank).<\/li><li>The study has revealed that even ecology at high altitude is\n compatible for the tiger growth.<\/li><li>The study has called for developing a master plan for the\n Tigers at High altitude with gainful portfolio for local communities and\n ensuring centrality of tiger conservation in development.<\/li><li>The study has also identified possible viable habitats,\n corridor linkages, anthropogenic pressures and induced landscape-level\n changes for evolving an in-situ conservation risk factors in middle-aged adults in 21\ncountries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The study has found that Cardiovascular Diseases(CVDs) remains\n the leading cause of mortality among middle aged adults globally\n accounting for more than 40% of deaths.<\/li><li>However,the deaths from cardiac disease were three times that\n of cancer related deaths in countries like India while in high-income\n countries(HIC) the deaths from cancer was twice that of CVD.<\/li><li>The study has said that the fact that cancer deaths are now\n twice as frequent as CVD deaths in HIC indicates a transition in the\n predominant causes of death in middle age.<\/li><li>The high cardiovascular disease deaths in countries like India\n is due to (a)Lower quality of healthcare (b)Lack of insurance (c)Indoor\n or&nbsp; Household air pollution (d)Hypertension and (e)other factors\n include poor diet among others.<\/li><li>The study has recommended that countries like India need to\n start investing in preventing and managing non-communicable diseases\n including cardiovascular disease rather than focusing largely on\n infectious procedures to deal with terrorist activities and\n individuals and groups that foster terrorism in India.<\/li><li>Under the Act,the central government may designate an\n organisation as a terrorist organisation if it (a)commits or participates\n in acts of terrorism, (b)prepares for terrorism (c) promotes terrorism or\n (d) is otherwise involved in terrorism.The bill additionally empowers the\n government to designate individuals as terrorists on the same\n grounds.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Under the Act,an investigating officer is required to obtain\n the prior approval of the Director General of Police to seize properties\n that may be connected with terrorism.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>The Bill adds that if the investigation is conducted by an\n officer of the National Investigation Agency(NIA),the approval of the\n Director General of NIA would be required for seizure of such\n property.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Under the Act,investigation of cases may be conducted by\n officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent or Assistant Commissioner of\n Police or above.The Bill additionally empowers the officers of the NIA of\n the rank of Inspector or above to investigate
