(GHI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is a peer-reviewed annual report,\n jointly published by Ireland\u2019s Concern Worldwide and Germany\u2019s\n Welthungerhilfe. It calculates the levels of hunger and under nutrition\n worldwide.<\/li><li>The index was first published in 2006. In 2019, 117\n countries have been assessed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key takeaways from\nGHI 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>17 countries with 2019 GHI scores of less\n than 5 have not been assigned individual ranks, but rather have been\n collectively ranked 1\u201317 as differences between their scores are minimal.\n Some of the countries include Uruguay, Ukraine, Turkey, Cuba, etc.<\/li><li>Central African Republic has been ranked\n the worst (117<sup>th<\/sup>) followed by Yemen and Chad.<\/li><li>At the regional level, South Asia and\n Africa South of the Sahara have the highest 2019 GHI scores in the world,\n at 29.3 and 28.4, respectively indicating serious levels of hunger.<\/li><li>Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of\n Independent States, Latin America and the Caribbean, East and Southeast\n Asia, and the Near East and North Africa range from 6.6 to 13.3,\n indicating low or moderate hunger levels.<\/li><li>Nine countries of concern were omitted due\n to lack of data, including Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Libya,\n Somalia, South Sudan and Syria.<\/li><li>The report has warned that the progress\n towards a 2030 zero hunger target (SDG 2) that was agreed upon by leaders\n across the words was \u201cunder threat\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>India has been ranked102nd out of 117\n qualifying countries. With a score of 30.3, India suffers from a level of\n hunger that is serious. India\u2019s ranking in 2018 was 103<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;out\n of 119 countries.<\/li><li>The child wasting rate in India stands at 20.8%\n which, according to the index, is the highest wasting rate of any country\n studied for the GHI report.<\/li><li>The child stunting rate, at 37.9%, has\n also been termed as very high.<\/li><li>Further, when it comes to infants aged six\n months to 23 months, only 9.6 percent of them in India are fed a \u201cminimum\n acceptable diet\u201d.<\/li><li>Neighbouring countries like Nepal (73rd),\n Sri Lanka (66th), Bangladesh (88th), Myanmar (69th) and Pakistan (94th),\n although all in the \u2018serious\u2019 hunger category, have performed better than\n India.
