Family\n Welfare(MoHFW).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Infant mortality\nrate:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Infant mortality rate(IMR) is the number\n of deaths per 1,000 live births of children under one year of age.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Total fertility\nrate:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Total fertility rate(TFR) is defined as\n the number of children born to a woman until the end of her child-bearing\n age.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1589596\">Lymphatic\nFilariasis<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Union minister for Health and Family Welfare\nhas organized National Symposium on United to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Lymphatic\nFilariasis:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lymphatic filariasis is commonly known as\n elephantiasis.It is a neglected tropical disease.<\/li><li>There are three different filarial species\n that can cause lymphatic filariasis in humans.<\/li><li>Most of infections worldwide are caused by\n Wuchereria bancrofti.In Asia, the disease can also be caused by Brugia\n malayi and Brugia timori.<\/li><li>The infection spreads from person to\n person by mosquito bites.The infection is usually acquired in childhood\n causing hidden damage to the lymphatic system.<\/li><li>The disease does not kill the affected\n people but may cause permanent disfigurement, reduced productivity and social\n stigma.<\/li><li>The disease affects the poorest population\n in society, particularly those living in areas with poor water, sanitation\n and hygiene.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Measures taken by\nIndia:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Indian Government has announced the use of\n Triple Drug therapy in a phased manner.<\/li><li>Triple drug therapy was recommended by the\n World Health Organization (WHO).It involves a combination of ivermectin,\n diethylcarbamazine citrate and albendazole.<\/li><li>India adopted the twin pillar strategy\n after WHO launched the Global Program to Eliminate Lymphatic\n Filariasis(GPELF)<\/li><li>Indian Government has also launched the\n Accelerate Plan for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis(APELF) in 2018.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/fm-nirmala-sitharaman-chairs-meeting-of-niifs-governing-council\/articleshow\/71808918.cms\">National\nInvestment and Infrastructure Fund(NIIF)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Union Finance minister has chaired the\ngoverning council meeting of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund(NIIF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About NIIF:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>NIIF is India\u2019s first sovereign wealth\n fund set up by the government of India in 2015.It is a fund manager that\n invests in infrastructure and related sectors in India.<\/li><li>It was created with the objective to\n maximise economic impact especially by infrastructure investment in\n commercially viable projects.<\/li><li>The Indian government has a 49% stake in\n NIIF with the rest held by foreign and domestic investors.<\/li><li>NIIF currently manages three funds each\n with its distinctive investment mandate. The funds are registered as\n Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) with the Securities and Exchange Board\n of India (SEBI).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the three\nfunds:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Master Fund:<\/strong>The Master Fund is an infrastructure fund\n with the objective of primarily investing in operating system:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Air-independent propulsion(AIP) is any\n marine propulsion technology that allows a non-nuclear submarine to\n operate without access to atmospheric oxygen(by surfacing).<\/li><li>AIP can augment or replace the\n diesel-electric propulsion system of non-nuclear vessels.<\/li><li>It enables conventional submarines to\n remain submerged for a longer duration.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance of\nAIP:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AIP significantly improves the stealth of\n a submarine as it allows a submarine to generate electricity for services\n and battery charging and propulsion while completely submerged.<\/li><li>AIP enables conventional submarines to\n remain submerged for two to three weeks at a time.This significantly\n reduces the risk of detection.<\/li><li>AIP systems also permits diesel-electric\n submarines to recharge their batteries independent of their engines.<\/li><li>It Corporation of\nIndia(ECGC) has said that the Nirvik scheme announced by the Union Government\nwould give a fillip to export lending and insurance cover for export credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the scheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The scheme aims to ease the lending\n process and enhance loan availability for exporters.<\/li><li>Under the scheme,the insurance cover\n guaranteed will cover up to 90% of the principal and interest.The\n insurance cover will include both pre and post-shipment credit.<\/li><li>The enhanced cover will ensure that\n Foreign and Rupee export credit interest rates will be below 4% and 8%\n respectively for exporters.<\/li><li>The gems, jewellery and diamond(GJD)\n sector borrowers with a limit of over Rs 80 crore will have a higher\n premium rate in comparison to the non-GJD sector borrowers of this\n category due to the higher loss ratio.<\/li><li>The scheme also mandates inspection of\n bank documents and records by ECGC officials for losses exceeding Rs.10\n crore as against the present Rs 1 crore.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance of the\nscheme:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This scheme will help make Indian exports\n competitive and make ECGC procedures exporter friendly, benefiting MSME\n exporters.<\/li><li>The insurance cover is also expected to\n bring down the cost of credit due to capital relief, less provision\n requirement and liquidity due
