These waterways pass through 24 states and two union\nterritories, with an approximate total length of 20274 km<\/li><li>The\nGanga \u2013 Bhagirathi \u2013 Hooghly river system between Haldia (Sagar) and Allahabad\n(1620 km) was declared as National Waterway-1 (NW-1) in 1986.<\/li><li><strong>National Waterway-2:<\/strong>&nbsp;National\nWaterway 2 (NW-2) 891km long stretch in Brahmaputra River extending from Sadiya\nto the Dhubri near Bangladesh border in Assam.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inland Waterways Authority of\nIndia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Inland\nWaterways Authority of India (IWAI) is responsible for development and\nregulation of inland waterways for shipping and navigation.<\/li><li>The\nAuthority primarily undertakes projects for development and maintenance of IWT\ninfrastructure on national waterways through grant received from Ministry of\nShipping.<\/li><li>It\nwas established in 1986 and is headquartered in Noida.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protocol on Inland Water Transit\nand Trade (PIWTT):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In\n1972, India and Bangladesh signed the Protocol on Inland Water Transit and\nTrade (PIWTT).<\/li><li>It\nis an agreement between the two governments for the transportation of goods and\nkeeping their respective waterways navigable, while providing infrastructure\nfacilities.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Indo-Bangladesh Protocol\n(IBP) Route:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It extends from Kolkata (India) on NW-1 to Silghat (Assam) on NW-2 (River Brahmaputra) and Karimganj (Assam) on NW-16 (River Barak).<\/li><li>Further, two stretches of Bangladesh inland waterways viz. Sirajganj\u2013Daikhawa &amp; Ashuganj-Zakiganj on the IBP route are being developed on cost sharing basis (80% being borne by India &amp; 20% by Bangladesh). The development of these two stretches is expected to provide seamless navigation to and from North East India through waterways via the IBP route.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/army-to-have-first-dhanush-regiment-by-march-2020\/article29872109.ece\">Indian\nArmy to have first Dhanush regiment by March 2020<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: The Indian\nArmy will have the first regiment, using Dhanush artillery guns, in place by\nMarch 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Dhanush Artillery Guns<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dhanush\nis the first indigenous long-range artillery gun.<\/li><li>It\nhas been developed by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata and manufactured by\nthe Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory.<\/li><li>The\ndesign of Dhanush is based on the Swedish Bofors Haubits FH77 which India\nimported in the 1980s.<\/li><li>Dhanush\ngun was officially inducted in Indian Army in April 2019.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Features of Dhanush:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nhas a caliber of 155mm x 45mm.<\/li><li>It\nhas a range of 36km and has demonstrated a range of 38 km with specialised\nammunition.<\/li><li>The\ngun is fitted with an inertial navigation system having global positioning\nsystem (GPS)-based gun recording and auto-laying, and an enhanced tactical\ncomputer for on-board ballistic computations.<\/li><li>It\nalso has an on-board muzzle velocity recording, an automated gun sighting\nsystem equipped with camera, thermal imaging, and laser range finder.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ordnance Factory Board (OFB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nis an industrial organisation, functioning under the Department of Defence\nProduction of Ministry of Defence. It came into existence in 1979 and is\nheadquartered in Kolkata.<\/li><li>It\nis engaged in research, development, production, testing, marketing and\nlogistics of a comprehensive product range in the areas of air, land and sea\nsystems.<\/li><li>OFB\ncomprises 41 ordnance factories, 9 Training Institutes, 3 Regional Marketing\nCentres and 4 Regional Controller of Safety.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/isros-navic-set-to-be-commercialised-by-antrix\/article29872382.ece\">Indian\nRegional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS): NavIC<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>&nbsp;Antrix has\nrecently put forward two separate tenders to identify industries that can\ndevelop dedicated NavIC-based hardware and systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Indian Regional Navigation\nSatellite System (IRNSS): NavIC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IRNSS\n(NavIC) is an independent regional navigation satellite system being developed\nby Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).<\/li><li>It\nis designed to provide accurate position information service to users in India\nas well as the region extending up to 1500 km from its boundary, which is its\nprimary service area. An Extended Service Area lies between primary service\narea and area enclosed by the rectangle from Latitude 30\u00b0South to 50\u00b0 North,\nLongitude 30\u00b0East to 130\u00b0East.<\/li><li><strong>Types of Services:<\/strong><ul><li><em>Standard Positioning Service (SPS):<\/em>&nbsp;It will be\nprovided to all the users.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li><em>Restricted Service (RS):<\/em>&nbsp;It is an\nencrypted service which will be provided only to the authorised users (military\nand security agencies).<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The\nspace segment consists of the IRNSS constellation of&nbsp;<strong>eight satellites,\nNavIC (Navigation<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>in Indian Constellation).<\/strong><\/li><li>Three\nsatellites are located in suitable orbital slots in the geostationary orbit and\nthe remaining four are located in geosynchronous orbits with the required\ninclination and equatorial crossings in two different planes.<\/li><li><strong>Some applications of IRNSS are:<\/strong><ul><li>Terrestrial,\nAerial and Marine Navigation<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Disaster\nManagement<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Vehicle\ntracking and fleet management<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Integration\nwith mobile phones<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Precise\nTiming<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Mapping\nand Geodetic data capture<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Terrestrial\nnavigation aid for hikers and travellers<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Visual\nand voice navigation for drivers.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Antrix:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Antrix\nCorporation Limited (ACL), Bengaluru is one of the commercial arm of ISRO. The\nother commercial arm of ISRO is the recently established NewSpace India Ltd.<\/li><li>ACL\nis a wholly owned Government of India Company under the administrative control\nof the Department of Space, Ministry of Science and Technology.<\/li><li>It\nwas incorporated as a private limited company owned by Government of India in\n1992 as a Marketing arm of ISRO.<\/li><li>The\nobjective of Antrix is promotion and commercial exploitation of space products,\ntechnical consultancy services and transfer of technologies developed by ISRO.\nAnother major objective is to facilitate development of space related\nindustrial capabilities in India.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geosynchronous orbit:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nis a path around the Earth where the orbital period matches the Earth\u2019s\nrotation period. This path is in high Earth orbit (as it is placed at an\naltitude of 35790 km) . Telecommunications and other remote sensing satellites\nare placed in this orbit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geostationary Orbit (GSO):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nis a geosynchronous orbit with an inclination of zero, i.e. it lies on the same\nplane as that of the equator. It lies 35,786 km above earth\u2019s equator.<\/li><li>A\nsatellite in this orbit appears to be stationary as seen from the earth. The\ngeostationary satellite remains at the same position throughout the day. The ban will be in place till May 31, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Olive Ridley Turtles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\nOlive Ridley turtles are the smallest and most abundant of all sea turtles in\nthe world.<\/li><li>They\ninhabit in the warm waters of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.<\/li><li>It\nis listed as&nbsp;<strong>Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List<\/strong>. Further, it has been\nlisted on&nbsp;<strong>Schedule \u2013 I<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<strong>Indian Wildlife\n(Protection) Act, 1972.<\/strong><\/li><li>The\nIndian Coast Guard also undertakes \u201cOperation Olivia\u201d every year.
