in 1947, the\ndomestic manufacturing sector has traveled from building the industrial\nfoundation in 1950\u2019s and early 1960\u2019s to the license\u2013permit Raj between 1965\nand 1980.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Then, it underwent a phase of\nliberalization of 1990\u2019s and finally to the present phase of global\ncompetitiveness<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance\nof Manufacturing Sector:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There are broadly three sectors of\nthe economy namely agriculture, industry and services.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Agriculture engages almost half the\nIndian workforce.But it does not grow fast enough and is not remunerative\nenough to provide gainful employment to the millions who join India\u2019s workforce\neach year.<\/li><li>Services is also a fast-growing\nsector and pays well but it places far greater demands on job seekers in terms\nof skills and education.<\/li><li>Hence,among these manufacturing\nsector has the highest potential to absorb the surplus labour in the economy as\nit does not demand for greater skills.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Initiatives\ntaken by Government to boost Manufacturing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Make\nin India:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Make in India initiative was\nlaunched in 2014.The initiative is led by the Department for Promotion of\nIndustry and Internal Trade(DPIIT).<\/li><li>The primary goal of the initiative\nis to make India a global manufacturing hub by encouraging both multinational\nas well as domestic companies to manufacture their products within the\ncountry.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About\nNational Manufacturing Policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>National Manufacturing policy was\nannounced in the year 2011 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and\nInternal Trade(DPIIT),Ministry of Commerce and Industry.<\/li><li>The policy aims to raise the\ncontribution of the manufacturing sector to 25% of the Gross Domestic Product\n(GDP) over the decade and also aims to create 100 million additional jobs by\n2022 in the manufacturing sector alone.<\/li><li>National Investment and\nManufacturing Zones (NIMZs) are an important component of the Policy.<\/li><li>However,despite these initiatives\nthe manufacturing\u2019s share is still under 17% of the GDP and the jobs situation\nin the country has only got worse.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a
