{"id":57876,"date":"2020-03-27T17:07:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T11:37:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=57876"},"modified":"2021-01-07T16:57:59","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T11:27:59","slug":"difference-asha-anganwadi-worker-aww-and-auxiliary-nurse-midwife-anm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/difference-asha-anganwadi-worker-aww-and-auxiliary-nurse-midwife-anm\/","title":{"rendered":"[Prelims 2020][Difference] ASHA, Anganwadi Worker (AWW) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are three different cadres of <strong>community health workers<\/strong> in India:<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-box-blue\">\n<ul>\n<li>Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA),<\/li>\n<li>Anganwadi Worker (AWW) and,<\/li>\n<li>Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>These community health workers play a pivotal role in the promotion of reproductive health services and family planning, antenatal care during pregnancy, skilled care for childbirth, immunization etc.<\/p>\n<h5>Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA)<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>ASHAs are an <strong>all-female cadre<\/strong> of community health workers constituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Rural Health Mission in 2006.<\/li>\n<li>ASHA is the <strong>first port of call<\/strong> for any health-related demands of deprived sections of the population, especially women and children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The aim of the ASHA is to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>create awareness on health and its social determinants<\/li>\n<li>mobilize the community towards local health planning<\/li>\n<li>facilitate access to existing health services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Anganwadi Worker (AWW)<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The Anganwadi worker is a <strong>functionary of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS)<\/strong> who manages the Anganwadi (a type of child and mother care centre established as a part of the ICDS).<\/li>\n<li>The main function of AWW is providing supplementary nutrition, non-formal pre-school education, nutrition and health education for mothers \/ pregnant mothers, nursing mothers and to adolescent girls, immunization, assisting in the implementation and execution of Kishori Shakti Yojana, and family planning.<\/li>\n<li>The AWW is supported by a part-time assistant, called an Anganwadi Helper (AWH)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Auxiliary Nurse Midwife<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) is a <strong>female health worker who is based at a health sub-centre or Primary health centre<\/strong>.
