Benzene Pollution is a <\/span><\/b>colourless<\/span><\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span><\/b>light-yellow<\/span><\/b>\u00a0chemical that is liquid at room temperature<\/span><\/b>. It has a sweet\u00a0<\/span>odour<\/span>\u00a0and is highly flammable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Benzene is formed from both natural processes and human activities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Natural sources of benzene include\u00a0<\/span>volcanoes and forest fires<\/span><\/b>. Benzene is also a natural part of\u00a0<\/span>crude oil, gasoline, and cigarette smoke<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0Normal environmental concentrations of benzene are unlikely to damage animals or plants. It does have a low to moderate toxicity for aquatic organisms, but this is only likely to be apparent when high concentrations arise from significant spills.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The indoor benzene exposure is often higher than outdoor.\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>outdoor air<\/span><\/b>\u00a0usually contains a low level of benzene from\u00a0<\/span>tobacco smoke<\/span>, gas stations,\u00a0<\/span>motor vehicle exhaust<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and industrial emissions.\u00a0<\/span>The benzene in\u00a0<\/span>indoor air\u00a0<\/span><\/b>comes from products such as glues, paints, furniture wax, and detergents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Further, fuels such as coal,\u00a0<\/span>wood<\/span>, gas, kerosene or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for space heating and cooking also lead to higher benzene concentration indoors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Polyurethane\u00a0<\/span><\/b>is used majorly its two major applications, soft furnishings and insulation<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Its thermal decomposition<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>consists<\/span>\u00a0mainly of carbon monoxide, benzene, toluene, oxides of nitrogen, hydrogen cyanide, acetaldehyde, acetone, propene, carbon dioxide, alkenes and water vapor.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
