{"id":66489,"date":"2020-10-12T15:27:30","date_gmt":"2020-10-12T09:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=66489"},"modified":"2021-02-27T18:57:23","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T13:27:23","slug":"blue-flag-certification-upsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/blue-flag-certification-upsc\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue flag certification awarded to 8 Beaches of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Sunday, India has received prestigious &#8216;Blue Flag&#8217; certification for all its eight beaches, spread across five states and two union territories that were recommended by the government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recommendation was made on September 18 by the government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Beaches awarded blue certification are<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shivrajpur in Gujarat,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ghoghla in Diu,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kasarkod and Padubidri in Karnataka (2)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kappad in Kerala,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden in Odisha and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radhanagar in Andaman and Nicobar Islands,<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Blue Flag Certification\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blue flag can be obtained by a beach, marina, or sustainable boating tourism operator of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) member countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Awarded by:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Denmark-based non-profit Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awards Blue Flag Certification.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Criterion:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is a globally most recognized eco-label accorded based on 33 stringent criteria under four major heads:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Environmental education and information,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bathing water quality\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Safety and services at the beaches<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Environment management and conservation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The international jury for the award comprises of members of the Denmark-based NGO Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 50 countries 4,664 beaches have been selected so far by FEE for the eco-label.
