{"id":67417,"date":"2020-10-26T19:56:39","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T14:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=67417"},"modified":"2021-03-04T15:16:16","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T09:46:16","slug":"what-is-uday-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/what-is-uday-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is UDAY scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">UDAY scheme<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UDAY scheme was launched in November 2015, the Ujjwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) was designed to turn around the precarious financial position of state distribution companies (DISCOMS).<\/li>\n<li>The state governments took over\u00a075 % of the debt of their DISCOMS, issuing lower-interest bonds to service the rest of the debt.<\/li>\n<li>In return,\u00a0DISCOMS were given target dates (2017-19) to meet efficiency parameters like reduction in power lost through transmission, theft and faulty metering.<\/li>\n<li>It empowers DISCOMs with the opportunity to break even in the next 2-3 years. This is through four initiatives.\n<ul>\n<li>Improving operational efficiencies of DISCOMs;<\/li>\n<li>Reduction of cost of power;<\/li>\n<li>Reduction in interest cost of DISCOMs;<\/li>\n<li>Enforcing financial discipline on DISCOMs through alignment with State finances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Successes of the scheme<\/em><\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Of the 28 states that implemented it, 10 have shown either reduced losses or profits in FY \u201919.<\/li>\n<li>Most of the states registered an improvement in reducing the ACS-ARR gap and in bringing down AT&amp;C losses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UDAY scheme UDAY scheme was launched in November 2015, the Ujjwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) was designed to turn around the precarious financial position of state distribution companies (DISCOMS).
