{"id":67987,"date":"2020-10-31T12:31:06","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T07:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=67987"},"modified":"2021-01-21T13:10:06","modified_gmt":"2021-01-21T07:40:06","slug":"air-pollution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/air-pollution\/","title":{"rendered":"AIR POLLUTION"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>According to the WHO, air pollution is defined as limited to situations in which the outdoor ambient atmosphere contains materials in concentration, which are harmful to the environment and his\/her surrounding environment.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>nature, dimensions, and magnitude of air pollution<\/strong> depends on a variety of factors such as residence time of <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pollutants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pollutants<\/a> in the atmosphere, sources of pollutants, nature of pollutants, amount of pollutants, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> time of pollutants<\/strong> for which it stays in the atmosphere vary considerably depending upon the <strong>nature of the pollutant<\/strong>, on <strong>meteorological factors<\/strong> (amount of moisture, cloudiness, etc.) and on <strong>sink mechanism<\/strong> (vegetation, water bodies, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table width=\"614\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"198\"><strong>AIR POLLUTANTS<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"416\"><strong>Air pollutant<\/strong> is a material in the air that can have adverse effects on humans and the ecosystem.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"198\"><strong>Pollutants are classified as<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"416\"><strong>According to their existence in nature, <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quantitative Pollutants:<\/strong> These occur in nature and become pollutants when their concentration reaches beyond a threshold level. Example: Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxide.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Qualitative Pollutants:<\/strong> These do not occur in nature and are man-made. Example: fungicides, herbicides, DDT etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>According to the form in which they persist after release into the environment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Primary pollutants: <\/strong>These persist in the form in which they are added to the environment. Examples: ash from a volcanic eruption, carbon monoxide gas from motor vehicle exhausts, Sulphur dioxide released from factories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secondary pollutants: <\/strong>These are formed by interaction and reaction among the primary pollutants. They are not emitted directly.
