Gross National Happiness is a term coined by His Majesty the\u00a0<\/span>Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Wangchuck<\/span><\/b>\u00a0in the 1970s.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gross national happiness (GNH) measures economic and moral progress as an alternative to gross domestic product<\/span>\u00a0measurement in Bhutan<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The concept implies that sustainable development should take a holistic approach towards notions of progress and give equal importance to non-economic aspects of well being.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Gross National Happiness Index is a\u00a0<\/span>single number index developed from 33 indicators<\/span><\/b>\u00a0categorized under nine domains including\u00a0<\/span>psychological well-being, standard of living, good governance, health, community vitality, cultural diversity, time use, and ecological resilience<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The GNH Index is constructed based upon a robust multidimensional methodology known as the\u00a0<\/span>Alkire-Foster method.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2012,\u00a0<\/span><\/b>for the first time\u00a0<\/span><\/b>World Happiness Report\u00a0<\/span><\/b>was released by\u00a0<\/span>United Nations\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Sustainable Development Solutions Network\u00a0<\/span><\/b>based on Gross Happiness Index at global level.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
