{"id":72094,"date":"2020-12-07T10:45:40","date_gmt":"2020-12-07T05:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=72094"},"modified":"2020-12-08T10:47:35","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T05:17:35","slug":"2nd-cancer-genome-atlas-tcga-2020-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/2nd-cancer-genome-atlas-tcga-2020-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"2nd Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) 2020 Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1678450\">Click here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>\u00a0Minister of Science and Technology has virtually inaugurated the 2nd TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) 2020 Conference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About the conference:\u00a0<\/strong>The Conference brings together scientists and clinicians from across the globe to build Indian Cancer Genome Atlas (ICGA).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indian Cancer Genome Atlas(ICGA):\u00a0<\/strong>It has been initiated by a consortium of key stakeholders in India led by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), Government of India<strong>.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aim:\u00a0<\/strong>To create indigenous, open-source and comprehensive database of molecular profiles of all cancers prevalent in Indian population to better understand the underlying factors patient by patient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA):<\/strong>\u00a0It is a landmark cancer genomics program that molecularly characterized over 20,000 primary cancers and matched normal samples spanning 33 cancer types.\n<ul>\n<li>It is a joint effort between the US- National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute began in 2006 bringing together researchers from diverse disciplines and multiple institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IndiGen Genome Project:\u00a0<\/strong>It is being implemented by the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB),Delhi and CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB),Hyderabad.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: To undertake whole genome sequencing of thousands of individuals representing diverse ethnic groups from India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes(PCAWG):\u00a0<\/strong>It is an international collaboration of the International Cancer Genome Consortium and The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA).\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Purpose:\u00a0<\/strong>The project revealed the most comprehensive gene map of the genes whose departures from normal behaviour \u2014 mutations \u2014 trigger a cascade of genetic misbehaviours that eventually lead to cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Click here News:\u00a0Minister of Science and Technology has virtually inaugurated the 2nd TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) 2020 Conference.
