{"id":74451,"date":"2020-12-27T10:28:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-27T04:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=74451"},"modified":"2020-12-28T10:19:38","modified_gmt":"2020-12-28T04:49:38","slug":"first-set-of-data-from-chandrayaan-2-released-isro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/first-set-of-data-from-chandrayaan-2-released-isro\/","title":{"rendered":"First set of data from Chandrayaan-2 released: ISRO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/science\/chandrayaan-2-missions-initial-data-released-isro\/article33415917.ece\">The Hindu<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>\u00a0Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) has released the first set of data from Chandrayaan-2 Mission for the general public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nodal Centre for Planetary Data:\u00a0<\/strong>The Indian Space Science Data Centre(ISSDC) is the nodal centre of planetary data archive for the planetary missions of the ISRO.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chandrayaan-2 data:\u00a0<\/strong>The Chandrayaan-2 data are required to be in the Planetary Data System-4(PDS4) standard and required to be peer reviewed scientifically and technically before acceptance as PDS archives and declared ready for sharing with the global scientific community and the general public.\n<ul>\n<li>This activity has been completed and hence the first set of data from the Chandrayaan-2 mission is now being released for the wider public use through the PRADAN portal hosted by the ISSDC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>What does the data provide?\u00a0<\/strong>The Orbiter, which carried eight experiments\/payloads, all of which have been performing well and sending data received.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chandrayaan-2<\/strong>: It is the second lunar exploration mission developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after Chandrayaan-1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Main Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>To map and study the variations in lunar surface composition, as well as the location and abundance of lunar water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Launch Vehicle:\u00a0<\/strong>The mission was launched onboard India\u2019s most powerful launcher \u2013 GSLV MK-III M1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Modules:\u00a0<\/strong>The Chandrayaan-2 mission consisted of three main modules:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Orbiter<\/strong>\u00a0carried eight scientific payloads for mapping the lunar surface and studying the exosphere (outer atmosphere) of the Moon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vikram lander\u00a0<\/strong>carried three scientific payloads to conduct surface and subsurface science experiments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A Lunar Rover<\/strong>\u00a0named Pragyan carried two payloads to enhance our understanding of the lunar surface.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong>The lander and rover were destroyed during the attempted landing in September, 2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The Hindu News:\u00a0Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) has released the first set of data from Chandrayaan-2 Mission for the general public.
