{"id":75802,"date":"2021-01-07T18:23:57","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T12:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=75802"},"modified":"2021-03-01T13:51:49","modified_gmt":"2021-03-01T08:21:49","slug":"sebi-moots-entry-norms-to-set-up-stock-exchanges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sebi-moots-entry-norms-to-set-up-stock-exchanges\/","title":{"rendered":"SEBI moots entry norms to set up stock exchanges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:\u00a0<\/strong>Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed a new framework for ownership of Market Infrastructure Institutions(MII) to facilitate new entrants to set up stock exchanges and depositories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is Market Infrastructure?\u00a0<\/strong>It is a system administered by a public organisation or other public instrumentality, or a private and regulated association or entity, that provides services to the financial industry for trading, clearing and settlement, matching of financial transactions and depository functions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Examples:\u00a0<\/strong>Examples of MIIs include stock exchanges, depositories and clearing corporations. These are systemically important institutions whose failure could lead to bigger cataclysmic collapses bringing down the economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Proposals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A resident promoter setting up an MII may hold up to 100% shareholding, which will be brought down to not more than (either 51% or 26%) in 10 years.<\/li>\n<li>A foreign promoter from Financial Action Task Force FATF member jurisdictions setting up an MII may hold up to 49% shareholding, which shall be brought down to not more than (either 26% or 15%) in 10 years.<\/li>\n<li>Foreign individuals or entities from other than FATF member jurisdictions may acquire or hold up to 10% in an MII.<\/li>\n<li>Any person other than the promoter may acquire or hold less than 25% shareholding.<\/li>\n<li>At least 50% of ownership of the MII may be represented by individuals or entities with experience of five years or more in the areas of capital markets or technology related to financial services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/Home\/MShareArticle?OrgId=GVU8566M5.1&amp;imageview=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Article Source<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed a new framework for ownership of Market Infrastructure Institutions(MII) to facilitate new entrants to set up stock exchanges and depositories.
