Focus should now be on other areas of friction like Kailash heights and Depsang plateau to bring lasting peace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and China have finally agreed to enter into a disengagement agreement <\/span><b>along <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/importance-of-ladakhs-pangong-tso-lake\/\">Pangong Tso region<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This agreement has been reached after nine months of hostility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agreement was reached in the <\/span><b>9th corps commander meeting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that was held on 24th January 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>mutual understanding and changing world scenarios<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that helped in this agreement.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What are the possible reasons behind this disengagement agreement?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts are of the view that the Chinese aggression was a response to<\/span><b> the rising strategic confidence of India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the region, since 2015. A lesson was to be taught to India and the vulnerable situation during the pandemic, gave Chinese just the right opportunity to execute its move. The following changing world scenarios are behind this agreement:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>new Biden-Harris alliance <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the US promised greater stability in the South China Sea. Now, Chinese won\u2019t like to further<\/span><b> deteriorate its global image. They <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">might be trying to deliver the message of cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the part of India, the<\/span><b> sensible diplomacy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coupled with <\/span><b>strategic advantage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> obtained at Kailash heights improved its bargaining power. It assured that China sits on the negotiation table and cooperate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discipline showed by India in the economic and trade domain also <\/span><b>refrained China from using its media warfare doctrine.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It induced China to engage in constant talks.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Media Warfare Doctrine<\/strong>-It is a doctrine that involves action to deny, exploit, corrupt or destroy the enemy&#8217;s information and its functions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Suggestions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The disengagement terms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should be <\/span><b>respected<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so that agreement leads to conflict resolution and not a postponement. It was seen in the earlier Doklam and Nathula stand-off, after reaching disengagement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Trust <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">needs to be established between frontline commanders else there is a possibility of escalation due to new friction, as seen in Galwan valley in July 2020.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talks on<\/span><b> other areas of friction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are ongoing at Depsang plateau and Kailash heights.
