First,\u00a0Sedition<\/strong>\u00a0under\u00a0section\u00a0124A of the IPC<\/a>\u00a0(Indian Penal Code).\u00a0<\/strong>Sedition is defined as\u00a0any action that brings or attempts to bring contempt or hatred towards the government of India.<\/strong>\u00a0Sedition cases are punishable with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.<\/p>\n Second<\/strong>,\u00a0Criminal defamation<\/strong>\u00a0under\u00a0section 499 of the<\/strong>\u00a0IPC<\/a>. Defamation is defined as\u00a0the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation of an individual person, group, product, business, government, religion, or nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n Third<\/strong>, the government enacted the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000<\/strong> for matters related to cybercrime and e-commerce. Under this act, the Government can punish any crime involving a computer or a network. The Act can charge Indian citizens as well as foreigners.<\/p>\n Fourth, The\u00a0Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>The Act aims\u00a0to effectively prevent unlawful activities and associations involved.\u00a0<\/strong>In 2019 the government amended the provisions of the Act to\u00a0designate an individual as a<\/strong>\u00a0terrorist.
