This mission will aim at generating hydrogen from <strong>green power sources and using it as a fuel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/green-energy-initiatives-in-budget-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more about Green Energy Initiatives in Budget 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About Hydrogen<span class=\"keyword _ngcontent-wzi-99\" aria-hidden=\"false\"> fuel\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hydrogen is the chemical element with the symbol H and atomic number. It is the lightest element in the periodic table. Moreover, it is the <strong>most abundant chemical substance<\/strong> in the universe.<\/li>\n<li>However, the most common element in nature is <strong>not available freely<\/strong>. Hydrogen also exists only in combination with other elements. Thus, it has to be extracted from natural compounds, like water.<\/li>\n<li>Hydrogen is <strong>categorized by colour tabs,<\/strong> based on its source. We can divide it into <strong>\u2018grey\u2019 hydrogen<\/strong> (produced from fossil fuels), <strong>\u2018blue\u2019 hydrogen<\/strong> (produced from fossil fuels with carbon capture and storage) or <strong>\u2018green\u2019 hydrogen<\/strong> (produced from renewable electricity).<\/li>\n<li>Green Hydrogen is specifically focussed upon in the government mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Hydrogen as a fuel:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hydrogen is considered an alternative to fossil and other types of fuels.<\/li>\n<li>However, Hydrogen is a carrier of energy, not a source of it. <strong>Fuel cells are required<\/strong> to transform Hydrogen into electricity and use it. Cells use oxidizing agents through an oxidation-reduction reaction, to convert chemical energy into electrical energy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the case of Hydrogen<\/strong>, fuel cells combine Hydrogen and Oxygen to generate electricity. \u00a0A catalyst, usually made from platinum is generally used for this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Advantages of Hydrogen fuel:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Readily Available: <\/strong>It is a basic earth element and is available in abundance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Doesn\u2019t Produce Harmful Emissions: <\/strong>When it burns, it doesn\u2019t emit harmful substances. The only by-product or emission from the usage of hydrogen fuel is water. It makes this fuel 100% clean.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Environmentally Friendly: <\/strong>It is a non-toxic substance which is rare for a fuel source.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fuel-Efficient: <\/strong>Compared to diesel or gas, it is much more fuel-efficient as it can produce more energy per pound of fuel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Disadvantages of Hydrogen Fuel:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Expensive: <\/strong>Although it is widely available,\u00a0it is time-consuming to separate hydrogen gas from its companion substances.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Difficult to Store: <\/strong>Hydrogen is very difficult to store. Its transportation even in a small amount is very expensive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not Easy to Replace Existing Infrastructure: <\/strong>There is not much infrastructure that can support hydrogen as fuel. Also, cars need to be refitted in order to accommodate hydrogen as fuel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highly Inflammable: <\/strong>Since it is a very powerful source of fuel, hydrogen can be very flammable.
