  1. Prime Minister Modi\u2019s remarks on dyslexia at a\nrecent event in IIT Roorkie has created a controversy. <\/li>
  2. Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability.\nIt causes problems with reading, writing and spelling. It can also create\ndifficulty with other skills such as comprehension, math, language, etc.\nHowever, intelligence is not affected by dyslexia.<\/li>
  3. Specific Learning Disabilities have been\nincluded in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The Act seeks to\nenhance the rights and\nentitlements of people with disability. It also seeks to provide effective\nmechanism for ensuring their empowerment and true inclusion into the society.<\/li>
  4. A bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha in 2017,\nentitled \u201cThe Children with Specific Learning Disabilities (Identification and\nSupport in Education).\u201d The bill provided for a) special facilities in\neducational institutions, b) setting up detection and remediation centres, c) guidelines\nfor certification of children with specific learning disabilities.<\/li>
  5. In 2018, the Ministry of Social Justice and\nEmpowerment (Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities) issued a\nnotification regarding screening,\ndiagnosis, and certification procedure for Specific learning disabilities. At\npresent, students with dyslexia get disability certificates from All India\nInstitute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru. <\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
