  1. A\nstudy based on National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) data has revealed\nthat India has 20.6 health workers per 10,000 people. The study has been\npublished in BMJ Open.<\/em><\/li>
  2. The number of health workers is less than the\nWorld health Organisation\u2019s minimum threshold of 22.8. However, the numbers\nhave increased from 19 health workers per 10000 people in 2012.<\/li>
  3. The distribution of health workers is uneven\nbetween urban and rural areas. Rural areas with nearly 71% of India’s\npopulation have only 36% of health workers. Delhi has the highest concentration\nof health workers followed by Kerala, Punjab, and Haryana.<\/li>
  4. The study has further noted that there is uneven\ndistribution of health workers in private and public health sector with more\nthan 80% of doctors and 70% of nurses and midwives being employed in the\nprivate sector.<\/li>
  5. Recently, a WHO database has put India into the\n\u201ccritical shortage of healthcare providers\u201d category. India has low density of\nhealth professionals with the number being lower than those of Sri Lanka,\nChina, Thailand, United Kingdom and Brazil.<\/li>
