  1. Rajasthan\u2019s medical and health department has\nbeen selected for the World Health Organisation (WHO) award for its\ncontribution in the field of tobacco control. The award has been presented on\nMay 31- World No Tobacco Day.<\/li>
  2. The Health Department of the State is the only\ngovernment body in the country which will be awarded for its tobacco-free\ninitiatives.<\/li>
  3. WHO has selected five organisations from the\nSouth-East Asian region for the World No Tobacco Day Awards. Three other\norganisations in the South-East Asian region have been selected from Thailand and\nIndonesia. Further, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, New Delhi, is also among\nthe recipients of the award.<\/li>
  4. The Medical & Health Department of Rajasthan\nhad launched several campaigns against tobacco consumption at places such as\nschools, colleges, police stations and government offices during 2018-19.<\/li>
  5. Further, in 2018, Rajasthan had fined 23,800\npeople for smoking in public places under the COTPA-The Cigarettes and Other\nTobacco Products Act, 2003. COTPA has been enacted to prohibit advertisement\nof, and to provide for the regulation of trade and commerce in, and production,\nsupply and distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products in India.<\/li>
  6. Under COTPA, smoking in public places (including\nindoor workplaces) has been prohibited. This has been implemented from 2nd\nOctober 2008 in the whole of India.<\/li><\/ol>\n
