{"id":84784,"date":"2019-07-15T16:20:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T10:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=8050"},"modified":"2019-07-15T16:20:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T10:50:55","slug":"poverty-index-how-jharkhand-reduced-its-poor-the-fastest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/poverty-index-how-jharkhand-reduced-its-poor-the-fastest\/","title":{"rendered":"Poverty index: how Jharkhand reduced its poor the fastest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Recently, the global Multidimensional Poverty\nIndex (MPI) report for 2019 has been released.<\/li><li>According to the report, across India, the\nnumber of people living in multidimensional poverty has decreased from 690.55\nmillion in 2005-06 to 369.55 million in 2015-16. <\/li><li>Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya\nPradesh together accounted for 196 million MPI poor people<\/li><li>Jharkhand reduced the incidence of multidimensional\npoverty from 74.9% to 46.5% between 2005-06 and 2015-16- the fastest in India.<\/li><li>However, the MPI report has noted that India\u2019s\nprogress in health outcomes is poor. India has the second highest stunting rate\namong the middle-income countries in Asia, the first being Pakistan.<\/li><li>Further, according to the report, the under-five\nmortality rate in India still stands at 43 per 1,000 live births.<\/li><li>Further, malaria and tuberculosis (TB) show\nIndia in poor light, with India scoring the worst among all Asian nations in\nthe middle-income group. As many as 18.8 persons per 1,000 people live in areas\nvulnerable to malaria in India. Further, In India, TB affects 211 people per\n10,000 people exposed to the disease.<\/li><li>The Global MPI Report is prepared by the United\nNations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human\nDevelopment Initiative.<\/li><li>The criterion for someone to be declared as\ndeprived as per MPI are as follows:(a)Education (year of schooling, child enrolment)\n(b)Health (child mortality, nutrition) and (c)Standard of living (electricity, drinking\nwater, sanitation, flooring, cooking fuel, assets)<\/li><li>A person is multidimensional poor if she\/he is\ndeprived in one third or more (means 33% or more) of the weighted indicators\n(out of the ten indicators).<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, the global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report for 2019 has been released.
