{"id":84793,"date":"2019-08-06T15:03:39","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T09:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=8858"},"modified":"2019-08-06T15:03:39","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T09:33:39","slug":"lok-sabha-passes-transgender-protection-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/lok-sabha-passes-transgender-protection-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Lok Sabha passes transgender protection Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Lok Sabha has passed the Transgender Persons\n(Protection of Rights) Bill 2019.<\/li><li>The Bill aims at the social, economic and\neducational empowerment of transgender persons.<\/li><li>Under the bill, transgender persons are defined\nas those \u201cwhose gender does not match the gender assigned to that person at\nbirth and includes trans-men or trans-women, persons with intersex variations,\ngender-queers, and persons having socio-cultural identities\u201d<\/li><li>According to the bill, a person would have the\nright to choose to be identified as a man, woman or transgender, irrespective\nof sex reassignment surgery and hormonal therapy. <\/li><li>It also requires transgender persons to go\nthrough a district magistrate and district screening committee to get certified\nas a transperson.<\/li><li>It also states that the government, through an\ninsurance scheme, will cover medical expenses for sex reassignment surgery,\nhormonal therapy, laser therapy or any such health related expenses of\ntransgender persons<\/li><li>The Bill prohibits any person or establishment\nfrom discriminating against a transgender person in any way.<\/li><li>It has also proposed establishing a National\nCouncil for Transgender persons. The Council would advise the central\ngovernment on related policies and legislation and also act as a centre for\ngrievance redressal.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lok Sabha has passed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2019.
