It is a\npart of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Rashtriya Bal\nSwasthya Karyakram (RBSK)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It was launched in 2013 under the National\nHealth Mission. It is implemented by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/li><li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> early\nidentification&nbsp; and&nbsp; early&nbsp;\nintervention&nbsp; for&nbsp; children&nbsp;\nfrom&nbsp; birth&nbsp; to&nbsp;\n18&nbsp; years to cover <strong>4 \u2018D\u2019s viz. Defects at&nbsp; birth,&nbsp;\nDeficiencies,&nbsp; Diseases,&nbsp; Development&nbsp;\ndelays&nbsp; including&nbsp; disability.<\/strong><\/li><li>Child Health Screening and Early Intervention\nServices under RBSK covers 30 selected health conditions for screening, early\ndetection and free management. Tuberculosis and Leprosy were previously not a\npart of it. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Leprosy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Leprosy, also known as Hansen\u2019s disease is a\nchronic neuro-muscular disorder. It is caused by several strains of <strong>Mycobacterium leprae.<\/strong><\/li><li>It can be cured with Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Status of Leprosy in\nIndia:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In 2005, India achieved the goal of elimination\nof leprosy as a public health problem, defined by WHO as less than 1 case per\n10,000 population.<\/li><li>All states except Chhattisgarh and the Union\nTerritory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli have eliminated leprosy. However, 1.15 lakh\nto 1.2 lakh new leprosy cases are still detected annually<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elimination efforts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>National\nLeprosy Eradication Programme<\/strong> was launched in 1983 with an objective to\narrest the disease activity in all the known cases of leprosy and eventually\neliminate leprosy. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Global\nleprosy strategy 2016-2020: <\/strong>It has been launched by WHO. It aims at a) zero\nchildren with leprosy-affected disabilities by 2020 and b) reduction of new\npatients diagnosed with leprosy-related deformities to &gt;1 per million\npopulation<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Tuberculosis\n(TB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>TB is an infectious airborne bacterial disease\ncaused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.<\/li><li>When TB infection becomes resistant to the first\nline of treatment \u2014 isoniazid and rifampicin, it is called Multi-drug resistant\nTB (MDR-TB). When the infection becomes resistant even to the second-line\ntreatment it is called Extensively-drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Status of TB in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The WHO 2018 Global TB Report says that India\nhas the highest burden of TB and multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB)<\/li><li>TB kills an estimated 4, 80,000 Indians every\nyear \u2014 an average over 1,300 every day.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elimination Efforts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Indian government has put forward <strong>National Strategic Plan (NSP) for TB\nElimination, 2017-2025<\/strong>. The plan is a framework to provide guidance for the\nactivities of various stakeholders to reduce the burden of TB mortality and\nmorbidity.<\/li><li>In 2018, the government launched the <strong>TB Free India campaign<\/strong> to take\nactivities under NSP for TB Elimination. The campaign seeks to <strong>eliminate TB in India by 2025<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>SDG 3.3: <\/strong>It\ncalls to eliminate TB by 2030<\/li><li><strong>WHO End TB\nStrategy<\/strong>: It aims to end the global TB epidemic, with targets to reduce TB\ndeaths by 95% and to cut new cases by 90% between 2015 and 2035<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched a scheme for universal screening of children below 18 years for leprosy and tuberculosis (TB).
