{"id":84825,"date":"2019-09-30T15:39:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T10:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10517"},"modified":"2019-09-30T15:39:09","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T10:09:09","slug":"national-nutrition-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/national-nutrition-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"National Nutrition Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>The first-ever comprehensive National Nutrition Survey has been conducted by the Government of India.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the National Nutrition Survey:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The survey has been conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the United Nations Children&#8217;s Fund(UNICEF) to measure malnutrition.<\/li><li>The survey recorded not only micronutrient deficiencies but also details of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and kidney function in children and adolescents.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How is it different from National Family Health Survey(NFHS):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The National Family Health Survey(NFHS) is a large-scale, multi-round survey conducted in a representative sample of households throughout India.<\/li><li>The National Nutrition Survey is different from the NFHS as it collects data to measure the prevalence of stunting, wasting and underweight and household dietary intake to measure deficiencies.<\/li><li>Moreover,the survey collects data only for the age groups of 1-5 years and adults and not for school going children between the ages of 5 and 19 years.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key takeaways from the survey:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The survey has found that nearly 10% of children in the age group of 5-9 years and adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years are pre-diabetic.<\/li><li>Further,5% of the children and adolescents in the same group are overweight and another 5% suffer from blood pressure.<\/li><li>The survey has also found the prevalence of indicators of non communicable diseases alongside indicators of undernutrition in the same age group.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/2Y5YJpCuUPbzQyYhcJmRBNekjJNrHeLwj4tfuF1BRnxtVIPgHaUbr21C1i0UkvwzF424Q7LhdLuWRVBNtzaD1fQRsfKBslBVBVZpVprWLje4EcM7fhKyvtGUTh2q6TiTb2b9jABH\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><strong>A<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional information:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UNICEF<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>UNICEF stands for United Nations Children\u2019s Fund.It was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946.It is headquartered in New York,USA.<\/li><li>It is a special program of the United Nations (UN) devoted to aiding national efforts to improve the health, nutrition, education, and general welfare of children.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Stunting- low height for age, Wasting- low weight compared to height, Underweight- low weight for age.
