{"id":84837,"date":"2019-10-16T16:22:36","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T10:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10991"},"modified":"2019-10-16T16:22:36","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T10:52:36","slug":"india-halved-its-poverty-rate-since-1990s-world-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-halved-its-poverty-rate-since-1990s-world-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"India halved its poverty rate since 1990s: World Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> The World Bank said that India has halved its poverty rate\nsince the 1990s and achieved a seven plus growth rate over the last 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key observations made by World Bank<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>India has achieved annual growth exceeding 7%\nover the last 15 years.<\/li><li>India\u2019s growth is expected to continue and\nelimination of extreme poverty in the decade is within reach.<\/li><li>While an estimated 13 million people enter the\nworking age population each year, only three million new jobs are being\ngenerated on an annual basis<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recommendations put forward by World Bank for India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Land will need to be used more productively in\nurban areas by the spatial transformation of cities achieving agglomeration\neconomies and in rural areas by increased agricultural productivity.<\/li><li>Water management will need to provide for\nshifting water allocation to higher-value uses and policies to increase the\nvalue of water use within sectors.<\/li><li>Electricity generation will need to be less\ncarbon intensive while ensuring proper electricity connectivity to all.<\/li><li>India\u2019s rapidly growing economy needs investment\nin infrastructure, an estimated 8.8 percent of GDP or $343 billion a year until\n2030.<\/li><li>Sustained growth will also need to accelerate\ninclusion, especially to create more and better jobs.<\/li><li>Public sector institutions will need to be\nmodernised to deliver services and regulations that match the aspirations of a\nmiddle income country.
