The reasons for rise in the number of people with type 2\ndiabetes are urbanisation, an ageing population, decreasing levels of physical\nactivity and increasing levels of overweight people and obesity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diabetes and its Types<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Diabetes is a chronic disease caused when either pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the cells in the body do not respond properly to insulin.<\/li><li>It is a non-communicable disease-non-infectious or non-transmissible.<\/li><li>There are three types of diabetes \u2013<ul><li>Type 1 when pancreas does not produce enough insulin<\/li><li>Type 2 -cells in the body do not respond to insulin properly, and<\/li><li>Gestational Diabetes &#8211; formed during pregnancy.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indian Government\nInitiatives to Control Diabetes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In line with WHO\u2019s Global action plan for the\nprevention and control of NCDs 2013-2020, India aims to reduce number of\npremature deaths by 25% and control NCDs by 2025<\/li><li><strong>National Programme for Prevention and Control\nof Cancers, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) in 2010: <\/strong>The objectives of the programme are:<ul><li>Health promotion, Awareness generation and\npromotion of healthy lifestyle<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Management of chronic Non-Communicable diseases,\nespecially Cancer, Diabetes, CVDs and Stroke through early diagnosis, treatment\nand follow up through setting up of NCD clinics<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Provide support for diagnosis and cost effective\ntreatment at various levels of health care<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Capacity Building at various levels of health\ncare for prevention, early diagnosis, treatment.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>World Diabetes Day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>World Diabetes Day is held on 14 November each\nyear.
