The Institute of Chemical\nTechnology, Mumbai has planned to establish a Centre of Excellence in Cellular\nAgriculture. The centre will be backed by US-based Good Food Institute- an\ninternational non-profit that promotes plant and cell-based meat through\nresearch.<\/li><li>The centre, through a process called cellular\nagriculture, will aim at creating clean meat. Cellular agriculture is a process\nin which a small sample of cells is taken from an animal painlessly and then\nused to grow meat in a manufacturing facility.<\/li><li>Of late, a number of research has indicated\nenvironmental concerns arising out of livestock industry and meat consumption\nsuch as a) increased use of use of water, food and energy to raise livestock, b)\nlarge-scale animal husbandry contributing to global warming through greenhouse\ngas emissions, c) antibiotic resistance. <\/li><li>There are also ethical concerns associated with animal\nslaughter, meat consumption and use of animal products. <\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mumbai has become the world\u2019s first city to host a research centre dedicated to lab-grown meat.
