The extension is beyond the initial term (2008-09 to\n2018-29) and will have a new five year phase (2019-20 to 2023-24). <\/li><li>BRCP seeks to build and nurture talent of\nhighest global standards in cutting-edge biomedical research in India. It is\nimplemented by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Wellcome Trust. Wellcome Trust\nis a UK based biomedical research charity.<\/li><li>Wellcome Trust\/DBT India Alliance is an initiative\nfunded equally by the Wellcome Trust, UK and Department of Biotechnology, India.\nThe aim of the initiative is to build excellence in the Indian biomedical\nscientific community through funding and engagement. In the new five year phase,\nthe DBT has increased its financial commitment by two times in comparison to\nWellcome trust. <\/li><li>The Department of Biotechnology under the\nMinistry of Science and Technology was formed in 1986.
