The aim is to blast a crater in the surface of the asteroid. It seeks to\nthrow up \u201cfresh\u201d material from under the asteroid\u2019s surface that could shed\nlight on the early stages of the solar system.<\/li><li>In\nFebruary, the Hayabusa2 spacecraft had successfully touched down on asteroid\nRyugu. It had then collected some surface fragments.<\/li><li>Hayabusa 2\nis a Japanese spacecraft launched in December 2014 on a six-year mission. It\nseeks to study the asteroid Ryugu and to collect samples to bring to Earth for\nanalysis. It will bring the asteroid sample to Earth in 2020.<\/li><li>Asteroid\nRyugu is a near-Earth object and a potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo\ngroup. A near-Earth object (NEO) is any small Solar System body whose orbit\nbrings it to proximity with Earth.<\/li><li>The\nHayabusa2 mission is a follow-up to Japan\u2019s original Hayabusa mission which\ntook samples from asteroid Itokawa.
