The region\nexists as a result of the interactions between the Sun and Earth. Once every 29\ndays, the Moon traverses the geotail for about six days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Formation of Geotail:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Sun emits the solar wind, which is a\ncontinuous stream of charged particles. These particles are embedded in the\nextended magnetic field of the Sun. <\/li><li>Since the Earth has a magnetic field, it\nobstructs the solar wind plasma. This interaction results in the formation of a\nmagnetic envelope around Earth.<\/li><li>On the Earth side facing the Sun, the envelope\nis compressed into a region that is approximately three to four times the Earth\nradius. <\/li><li>On the opposite side, the envelope is stretched\ninto a long tail, which extends beyond the orbit of the Moon. This tail is\ncalled the geotail.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"579\" width=\"750\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/factly.forumias.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/geo-1024x791.png?resize=750%2C579\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10696\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chandrayaan 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Chandrayaan-2 is India\u2019s second unmanned lunar\nmission after Chandryaan-1. It is the 1st Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing\non moon with indigenous technology. However, the mission has unsuccessful in\nsoft landing on moon.<\/li><li>The main aim of the Chandrayaan-2 mission is to\nconduct a detailed study of moon for a better understanding of its origin and\nevolution.<\/li><li>The Chandrayaan &#8211; 2 comprises of an a) Orbiter,\nb) Lander named \u2018Vikram\u2019 and c) Rover named \u2018Pragyan\u2019.<\/li><li>The Chandrayaan-2 mission was carrying 13\npayloads. The Orbiter carries 8 payloads.<\/li><li>Chandrayaan-2 Large Area Soft X-Ray Spectrometer\n(CLASS) is one of the payloads in the Orbiter.
