The company had\nlaunched its first batch of 60 satellites in May 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Star Link Project<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The\nproject seeks to build a low-cost, satellite based broadband network capable of\ndelivering internet access to the entire globe. Starlink network will eventually\nhave 42,000 satellites.<\/li><li>The\nStarlink satellites will be deployed in the altitude band of 350 km to 1,200 km\nin the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The LEO extends up to 2,000 km above the Earth\u2019s\nsurface.<\/li><li>The main\nadvantage of putting satellites in LEO for space-based Internet is that it will\nreduce the latency between a user seeking data, and the server sending that\ndata.<\/li><li>However,\nLEO comes with a major disadvantage. Owing to their lower height, their signals\ncover a relatively small area. As a result, many more satellites are needed in\norder to reach signals to every part of the earth. <\/li><li>Starlink\naims to start service in the northern United States and Canada in 2020, and\nexpand to cover the whole world by 2021.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concerns associated with Starlink<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increased\nspace debris, <\/li><li>Increased\nrisk of collisions, <\/li><li>Concern\nof astronomers that these constellations of space Internet satellites will make\nit difficult to observe other space objects, and to detect their signals.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Loon:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is a\nproject by Loon LLC, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (the parent company of\nGoogle). It seeks to provide Internet access to rural and remote areas.<\/li><li>It uses\nhigh-altitude balloons placed in the stratosphere (a layer of atmosphere that\nlies above the troposphere) at an altitude of 18 km to 25 km to create an\naerial wireless network with up to 4G-LTE speeds.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Whitespace Internet:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Microsoft\nis providing whitespace internet to unserved areas of Jamaica, Namibia,\nTanzania, Philippines etc.<\/li><li>White\nSpace Internet uses a part of the radio spectrum known as White spaces.
