{"id":86306,"date":"2019-10-11T17:13:48","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T11:43:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10845"},"modified":"2019-10-11T17:13:48","modified_gmt":"2019-10-11T11:43:48","slug":"gst-council-forms-12-member-panel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/gst-council-forms-12-member-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"GST Council forms 12-member panel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>The Goods and Services Tax(GST) Council has constituted a 12-member committee of officials from states and Centre to suggest steps to augment revenue and improve compliance under the GST regime.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why was the committee formed?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The committee was formed after the gross monthly collection has fallen to a 19 month low of \u20b991,916 crore in September,2019.<\/li><li>The Government has set a target of collecting over \u20b91 lakh crore every month during the current fiscal.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the committee:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The committee will have the officials from Centre and GST Network (GSTN).<\/li><li>The committee will also have officials from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Punjab who will represent the States.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Any other State could also join the committee on a voluntary basis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Terms of reference for committee:<\/strong>The committee will look into wider range of reforms such as&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>systemic changes in GST including checks and balances to prevent misuse<\/li><li>measures to improve voluntary compliance and anti-evasion measures using better data analytics and better administrative coordination.&nbsp;<\/li><li>policy measures and relevant changes needed in the law and measures for expansion of tax base under the GST regime.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional information:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About GST Council:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Goods &amp; Services Tax(GST) Council is a constitutional body for making recommendations to the Union and State Government on issues related to Goods and Service Tax.<\/li><li>As per Article 279A (1) of the constitution, the GST Council was constituted by the President.<\/li><li>The council consists of the following members: (a) The Union Finance Minister is the Chairperson (b) The Union Minister of State in-charge of Revenue of finance and (c) The Minister In-charge of finance or taxation or any other Minister nominated by each State Government.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:The Goods and Services Tax(GST) Council has constituted a 12-member committee of officials from states and Centre to suggest steps to augment revenue and improve compliance under the GST regime.
