{"id":86477,"date":"2020-02-27T15:33:08","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T10:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=13965"},"modified":"2021-04-22T11:49:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T06:19:52","slug":"masala-bonds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/masala-bonds\/","title":{"rendered":"Masala Bonds"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Asian Development Bank (ADB) has listed its 10-year masala bonds worth Rs 850 crore on the global debt listing platform of India INX.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>About Masala Bonds:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Masala Bonds are rupee-denominated borrowings issued by Indian entities in overseas markets.<\/li>\r\n<li>The objective of Masala Bonds is to fund infrastructure projects in India, fuel internal growth via borrowings and internationalise the Indian currency.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Who can issue these bonds?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>The bond can be issued in a country and subscribed by a resident of such a country that is a member of the Financial Action Task Force and whose securities market regulator is a member of the International Organisation of Securities Commission.<\/li>\r\n<li>It can also be subscribed by multilateral and regional financial institutions where India is a member country.<\/li>\r\n<li>The first Masala bond was issued in 2014 by IFC for the infrastructure projects in India.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>How does Masala Bonds help bond issuers?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>As Masala bonds are issued directly in Indian rupees,the investor needs to bear the exchange rate risks.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Rupee rate falls will not affect the issuer of Masala Bonds.
