The reserve lies along the watershed of\nthe Periyar and Pamba rivers. In 1978, the Periyar sanctuary was declared as a\nTiger Reserve under Project Tiger.<\/li><li>In\n1996, the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department launched the India\nEco-Development Project (EDP) for the Periyar Tiger Reserve with financial\nassistance from the World Bank\u2019s and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
