Madhya\nPradesh saw the highest number of tigers at 526, closely followed by Karnataka\n(524) and Uttarakhand (442). Chhattisgarh and Mizoram saw a decline in tiger\npopulation.<\/li><li>Pench\nTiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of tigers,\nSathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu registered the \u201cmaximum improvement\u201d\nsince 2014<\/li><li>The\ntiger census is carried out by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).\nThe first census was conducted in 2006.<\/li><li>The\ntiger census provides details on the number of tigers in the 18 tiger reign\nstates with 50 tiger reserves. However, the current census also included data\ncollected from the rough terrains of north-eastern states which was not\npossible due to logistic constrains before.<\/li><li>The\nAll India Tiger Estimation 2018 has used M-STRiPES (Monitoring System for\nTigers-Intensive Protection and Ecological Status). M-STRiPES was launched in\n2010 by NTCA and along with the Wildlife Institute of India. It is a\npatrol-based wildlife monitoring GIS database, designed to assist wildlife\nprotection, monitoring, and management of Protected Areas.<\/li><li>India\nhad launched Project Tiger in 1973 with an aim to limit factors that leads to\nreduction of tiger habitats and to mitigate them by suitable management. Established\nin 2005, NTCA oversees management of Project Tiger and Tiger Reserves in India.\n<\/li><li>In\n2010, the governments of the world\u2019s 13 tiger range countries put forward the\nGlobal Tiger Recovery Plan. The plan outlines how each country could double the\nnumber of tiger population in the country. <\/li><li>The\nPlan was part of the ambitious species conservation goal called Tx2 set up by\nthe World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).
