{"id":86977,"date":"2019-09-23T15:41:52","date_gmt":"2019-09-23T10:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=10344"},"modified":"2019-09-23T15:41:52","modified_gmt":"2019-09-23T10:11:52","slug":"atlantic-meridional-overturning-currentamoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/atlantic-meridional-overturning-currentamoc\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current(AMOC)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>A new study has suggested that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current (AMOC) is getting help from the warming up of Indian Ocean.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current(AMOC):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current(AMOC) is a large system of ocean currents operating In the Atlantic which circulates the water between the north and the south.&nbsp;<\/li><li>AMOC ensures the oceans are continually mixed, and heat and energy are distributed around Earth.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How AMOC operates?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The AMOC is a large system of ocean currents like a conveyor belt, driven by differences in temperature and salt content \u2013 the water\u2019s density.<\/li><li>As warm water flows northwards in the Atlantic, it cools, while evaporation increases its salt content.<\/li><li>The low temperature and high salt content makes the water denser and this dense water sinks deep into the ocean.<\/li><li>The cold, dense water deep below slowly spreads southward.Eventually, it gets pulled back to the surface and warms again and the circulation is complete.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the study:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For thousands of years, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) has remained stable.<\/li><li>But for the last 15 years,scientists have said that AMOC may be slowing which could have drastic consequences on global climate.<\/li><li>However, the rising temperatures in the Indian Ocean can help to boost the AMOC and delay slow down.<\/li><li>The study has said that warming in the Indian Ocean generates additional precipitation which in turn draws more air from other parts of the world, including the Atlantic.\u00a0<\/li><li>The higher level of precipitation in the Indian Ocean will reduce precipitation in the Atlantic and increase salinity in the waters.<\/li><li>This saltier water in the Atlantic will get cold much quicker than usual and sink faster.<\/li><li>The above process would act as a jump start for AMOC intensifying the circulation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/Yn8BkOcPoz4quFo3el4MxXyVxSBKC61Qc1hgKyN4OOk9k1rGD5kPDyldlWsiVSPuBVJuFOBMbHctp5TMIt-gfItC2fbo8mlEWZ4TOywvX7x59_qHtaTwTcUZiZ85VRBz5SgNlTFV\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:A new study has suggested that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current (AMOC) is getting help from the warming up of Indian Ocean.
