{"id":87028,"date":"2019-11-12T16:27:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T10:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=11517"},"modified":"2019-11-12T16:27:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-12T10:57:07","slug":"centre-forms-committee-to-draft-new-water-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-forms-committee-to-draft-new-water-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre forms committee to draft new water policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: The Jal\nShakti Ministry has finalised a committee to draft a new National Water Policy\n(NWP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Committee:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It will be chaired by Mihir Shah, who is a\nformer Planning Commission member and a water expert. <\/li><li>The committee has 10 principal members,\nincluding Shashi Shekhar, a former secretary of Water Resources, and A.B.\nPandya, former chairman of the Central Ground Water Board.<\/li><li>The committee is expected to produce a report\nwithin six months.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About National Water\nPolicy 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It put emphasis on the need for a national water\nframework law, comprehensive legislation for optimum development of inter-State\nrivers and river valleys, amendment of Irrigation Acts, Indian Easements Act,\n1882, etc.<\/li><li>It recommended setting up of Water Regulatory\nAuthority. <\/li><li>It put forward the concept of an Integrated\nWater Resources Management approach that took the \u201criver basin\/ sub-basin\u201d as a\nunit for planning, development and management of water resources.<\/li><li>It also proposed that a portion of river flows\nought to be kept aside to meet ecological needs. <\/li><li>It also stressed for a minimum quantity of\npotable water for essential health and hygiene to all its citizens to be made\navailable within easy reach of households.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Jal Shakti Ministry has finalised a committee to draft a new National Water Policy (NWP).
