{"id":87036,"date":"2019-11-15T18:28:43","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T12:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=11628"},"modified":"2019-11-15T18:28:43","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T12:58:43","slug":"dr-harsh-vardhan-to-announce-finalists-of-the-global-cooling-prize-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/dr-harsh-vardhan-to-announce-finalists-of-the-global-cooling-prize-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Harsh Vardhan to announce finalists of the \u2018Global Cooling Prize\u2019 tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News<\/strong>: Finalists\nof the \u2018Global Cooling Prize\u2019 (GCP) will be announced at an Award Ceremony being\norganized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Mission\nInnovation (MI) programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Global Cooling\nprize (GCP)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ministry of Science &amp; Technology in\npartnership with BEE &amp; MoEF&amp;CC launched GCP jointly with Rocky Mountain\nInstitute (RMI), US in 2018.<\/li><li>It is an international competition to\nincentivize the development of a residential cooling technology that will have\nat least five times (5x) less climate impact than the standard Room Air Conditioning\n(RAC) units sold today.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Mission\nInnovation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is a global initiative of 24 countries and the\nEuropean Union to accelerate global clean energy innovation.<\/li><li>MI was announced at COP21 in 2015 in Paris.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goal:<\/strong> To\naccelerate the pace of clean energy innovation to achieve performance\nbreakthroughs and cost reductions to provide widely affordable and reliable\nclean energy solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Seek to double their governmental and\/or\nstate-directed clean energy clean energy research, development and\ndemonstration (RD&amp;D) investments over five years.<\/li><li>Work closely with the private sector as it\nincreases its investment in the earlier-stage clean energy companies that\nemerge from government programs.<\/li><li>Build and improve technology innovation roadmaps\nand other tools to help in our innovation efforts, to understand where RD&amp;D\nis already happening, and to identify gaps and opportunities for new kinds of\ninnovation.<\/li><li>Provide, on an annual basis, transparent, easily-accessible\ninformation on their respective clean energy RD&amp;D efforts<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Innovation Challenges\nunder MI<\/strong>: It has 8 innovation challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Smart\nGrids:<\/strong> The objective is to enable future grids that are powered by\naffordable, reliable, decentralised renewable electricity systems<\/li><li><strong>Off-Grid\nAccess to Electricity:<\/strong> The objective is to develop systems that enable\noff-grid households and communities to access affordable and reliable renewable\nelectricity.<\/li><li><strong>Carbon\nCapture:<\/strong> The objective is to enable near-zero CO2 emissions from power\nplants and carbon intensive industries.<\/li><li><strong>Sustainable\nbiofuels:<\/strong> The objective is to develop ways to produce, at scale, widely\naffordable, advanced biofuels for transportation and industrial applications.<\/li><li><strong>Converting\nSunlight:<\/strong> The objective is to discover affordable ways to convert sunlight\ninto storable solar fuels.<\/li><li><strong>Clean\nEnergy Materials<\/strong>: The objective is to accelerate the exploration, discovery\nand use of new high-performance, low-cost clean energy materials.<\/li><li><strong>Affordable\nHeating and Cooling of buildings<\/strong>: The objective is to make low-carbon\nheating and cooling affordable for everyone.<\/li><li><strong>Renewable\nand clean Hydrogen:<\/strong> The objective is to accelerate the development of a\nglobal hydrogen market by identifying and overcoming key technology barriers to\nthe production, distribution, storage, and use of hydrogen at gigawatt scale.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Finalists of the \u2018Global Cooling Prize\u2019 (GCP) will be announced at an Award Ceremony being organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Mission Innovation (MI) programme.
