{"id":87088,"date":"2019-12-31T15:22:51","date_gmt":"2019-12-31T09:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=12637"},"modified":"2019-12-31T15:22:51","modified_gmt":"2019-12-31T09:52:51","slug":"madhya-pradesh-gets-its-first-elephant-colony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/madhya-pradesh-gets-its-first-elephant-colony\/","title":{"rendered":"Madhya Pradesh gets its first elephant colony"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong>Recently,Madhya Pradesh has got its first elephant colony in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh.It was declared a national park in 1968 and then became Tiger Reserve in 1993.<\/li><li>The park resides on the extreme north eastern border of Madhya Pradesh and the northern edges of the Satpura mountain ranges.<\/li><li>The park derives its name from the most prominent hillock of the area, which was said to be given by Hindu Lord Rama to his brother Lakshmana to keep a watch on Lanka.<\/li><li>The park is also mentioned in the ancient books of the \u2018Narad Pancharatra\u2019 and the \u2018Shiv Purana\u2019 that this place is being associated with Ramayana.&nbsp;<\/li><li>There are a large number of tigers in the core zone of the Park.There are more than 22 species of mammals and 250 species of birds.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>According to 2017 Elephant Census,India is home to 50% of the Asian Elephant population.<\/li><li>The Asian Elephant has been given the highest level of protection in India by its inclusion in Schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.&nbsp;<\/li><li>They are also included in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>According to All India Tiger Estimation Report\u2013 2018, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers (526) followed by Karnataka (524) and Uttarakhand (442).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:Recently,Madhya Pradesh has got its first elephant colony in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
