{"id":87357,"date":"2020-08-22T19:20:03","date_gmt":"2020-08-22T13:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=17030"},"modified":"2020-08-22T19:20:03","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T13:50:03","slug":"kerala-to-host-dragonfly-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/kerala-to-host-dragonfly-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Kerala to host dragonfly festival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong> World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF)-India State unit has joined hands with the Society for Odonate Studies(SOS) and Thumbi Puranam for the first-ever State Dragonfly Festival in Kerala called Thumbi Mahotsavam 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>State Dragonfly festival: <\/strong>It is a part of a national dragonfly festival being organised by the WWF India, Bombay Natural History Society &amp; Indian Dragonfly Society.<ul><li>It is organised in association with the National Biodiversity Board, UNEP, UNDP and IUCN &#8211; Centre for Environment Conservation.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Mascot: <\/strong>\u2018Pantalu\u2019 is the official mascot of the festival.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Dragonfly: <\/strong>It is an aerial predator insect most commonly found near freshwater habitats throughout most of the world.<\/li><li><strong>Significance:<\/strong> Dragonflies act as important bio-indicators of the ecological health of an area as they feed on mosquitoes and other insects that are vectors to life-threatening diseases like Malaria and Dengue.<\/li><li><strong>Bioindicators<\/strong>: These are living organisms such as plants, plankton, animals and microbes which are used to assess the health of the natural ecosystem in the environment.<\/li><li><strong>Examples of Bioindicators:<\/strong><ul><li><strong>Lichens<\/strong> are powerful Bioindicators of air quality.<\/li><li><strong>Algae blooms<\/strong> are often used to indicate large increases of nitrates and phosphates in lakes and rivers among others.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF)-India State unit has joined hands with the Society for Odonate Studies(SOS) and Thumbi Puranam for the first-ever State Dragonfly Festival in Kerala called Thumbi Mahotsavam 2020.
