{"id":88331,"date":"2020-05-21T17:58:39","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T12:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=15586"},"modified":"2020-05-21T17:58:39","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T12:28:39","slug":"nepals-new-political-map-claims-indias-territories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nepals-new-political-map-claims-indias-territories\/","title":{"rendered":"Nepal\u2019s new political map claims India\u2019s territories"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News: <\/strong>Nepal has released a new map showing Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh areas as part of its territory.However,India has termed it as artificial enlargement of Nepal territorial claims that will not be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India-Nepal Border Disputes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kalapani Dispute:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Kalapani is located at an altitude of 3600m on the Kailash Mansarovar route.It borders Uttarakhand in India and Sudurpaschim Pradesh in Nepal.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Since the Indo-China war of 1962, Kalapani has been controlled by India\u2019s Indo-Tibetan Border Police.<\/li><li><strong>Origin of Dispute: <\/strong>The 1816 Treaty of Sagauli signed between British India and Nepal defined river Mahakali as the western border of Nepal.&nbsp;<\/li><li>However, discrepancy in locating the source of the Mahakali river led to boundary disputes between India and Nepal with each country producing maps supporting their own claims.<\/li><li>India claims that the river begins in Kalapani as this is where all its tributaries merge.<\/li><li>On the other hand, Nepal claims not only the Kalapani region but also Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as parts of its territory.All three areas are to the east of the river Kali.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/KydOLuR07ZjgaOo0glUCXAOFJw__ZDD4JICONh8Z4lmiFi1dNEC3_DCyK03kOAa613oFsxAGZ5uS9CxE0X8JlSEgU2LgcSajfe5JhD-gRR3ljr1WDJoCZfXaFVoNzXHA2plhywqJ\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Susta Territorial Dispute:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Treaty of Sagauli defined Gandak as the international boundary between India and Nepal.<\/li><li>When the treaty was signed, Susta was on the right bank of the river Gandak which falls in Nepal territorial control.&nbsp;<\/li><li>But, in due course of time, the river has changed its course and Susta now falls on the left bank of the Gandak which is controlled by India.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Nepal has released a new map showing Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh areas as part of its territory.However,India has termed it as artificial enlargement of Nepal territorial claims that will not be accepted.
